Which browser

Here's a question - what is the best browser?

I've always been a fan of Safari (usually the web kit version), with firefox as the back up for those few sites which do not render within safari. However I just noticed that Opera 10 was introduced yesterday, so I am currently downloading it to see what its like. Google Chrome will be available soon as well I'm sure.

I use Firefox mainly.  I'm not sure Flickr would be such a pleasant place without the Greasemonkey addons I use.  It seems to have a memory leak though - it slows down through the day and occasionally needs restarting.

Safari 4 seems pretty nice though - very quick and slick.

For my online banking I use IE6 under Crossover for Mac.  Abbey's "business" banking doesn't work properly on any Mac browser.  Even though they say they tested it.

I use Firefox 99% of the time - very occasionally use IE for a couple of specific things where Firefox does'nt seem to work [it probably would with the right add ons I suppose].

I use Google chrome which is faster than I.E, does everything i need it to do, and i like the thumbnail bookmarks that it displays.

I'm one of the odd balls. I have been using Opera as my main browser for over a decade now. Opera does have some weird java issues and so sometimes I have to resort to FireFox, or in real emergencies IE.

The main reason for using Opera (aside from its speed) is the built in email client. On the screen along side the window I am typing is is the mail client bar where I can see all of the family's email accounts at once. Best thing about it is that it's not Outlook.

Also Opera has Unite in beta which enables you use your home pc as a pseudo server. I've tried it, it works.

I admit I find other browsers a bit strange after Opera, which must mean that Opera is a bit strange 

Google installed chrome without asking me (at least not is a very evident way) and I haven't tried it yet. But if it has no email client I won't use it other than in passing.

One of the problems with just checking the "unread posts since last visit." page is that you don't usually notice right off which forum the post is in. Like here...I only noticed it was the mac forum after you mentioned it in your post.

Now, which browser should people use on WinXP? And...why would anyone buy a mac when there's a perfectly good alternative in W95?!

I'm not bothered - those browsers running on both platforms are in essence the same (I think)... I have been playing with Opera and... not that impressed really. I think Safari nicked a few odds and sods from it - or perhaps the other way round? I'll keep dipping into it, but I think I shall be sticking with Safari (hopefully the glims people will get it working for snow leopard asap - and more importantly the MacSpeech team will provide an update to my beloved MacSpeeh Dictate which I am really lost without).

Opera

It's faster, lighter, more secure, more customisable and generally more agile than any other broswer out there.  Although as was mentioned above it does sometimes have some odd Java issues

Thought this maybe of interest, found on engaget "Germany's Federal Office for Information Security has released a warning to its population: avoid IE." Apparently this is due to Microsofts admission that there are big security vulnerabilities which allowed China to hack Googlemail. Surly Google has some blame? I'm fussing goggle will be stepping up Chrome advertising in Germany then!
