QOTD 6th Nov - Printers
« on: November 06, 2013, 01:54:11 AM »
Do you print your own images? Do you have any tips or advice for people wanting to print their own images?
What printer do you own?

I have a Canon Pixma 970 - a few years old now and has been really reliable, but starting to get a bit tired. It only does up to A4 so anything bigger I have to get done at our local Camera House.
I'm looking at an Epson R2000, any one got one, any feedback?

Strange you should ask this question (you remember your previous question 'How would you spend £500?'). Well I took delivery of an Epson R3000 last week.

It was to replace a tired an knackered R2400 that seemed to have given up the ghost and only operated when it made up its mind to.

I've always printed my own images as I feel it's part of the 'photographic process'. I suppose it harks back to the old days when you weren't regarded as a proper photographer unless you finished the job by printing and mounting your work. A view that today is met with ridicule, but one I still adhere to. I remember when the RPS allowed submissions for their distinctions to be printed by third parties, everyone threw up their hand in horror! :o

As to what printer should you buy, it all depends on what quality of print you are satisfied with and how deep your pockets are. If you are going to make your own prints and you've spent a small fortune on cameras and lenses I would hazard a guess you need to spend a proportionate amount on the final stage, it's a bit like buying a Ferrari and fitting it with remoulds.

Just my opinions and views, others are available. ;)

Don't think of it as a cheap option.
Regular use will keep it in top condition, leave it to stand idle  and it'll be a load of trouble. *
