What's this?
« on: March 12, 2012, 02:48:43 PM »
  Any natural historians out there?
I found this on a beach in Northumberland, ooh, about seven years ago.
Does anyone know what it is/was? It measures 3 1/2" across the "spine".

Lol. I was right
Being a wild lifer  Ive seen similar on wildlife films and things. I wasn't 100% sure but the pieces which went to a point like a blade made me think of a birds skeletal breast plate

I did think it looked a bit like that, but I was unsure about the pointy, sticky out blade type thing. Apparently it's where the big muscles are atatched to make the wings flap about.

Never mind Graham
I'm watching wildlife all the time............................... when the Apprentice isn't on
But I did a lot of study on prehistoric birds when a youngster , was very keen  and the books show their  skeletal frames. Guess it stayed in that part of my brain that occasionally functions  ::)

You never know when that sort of knowledge is going to come in useful.
I'm assuming it came from a seagull.
