I've been having a play with it and think the 'white' and 'black' slider in the develop mode is a great improvement over the old 'fill light' and 'Black' slider setup on L/R3.

The new setup gives a much better control over highlights and shadow detail within a particularly contrasty image than I could achieve with the previous system.

Can't see much, if any change in the Print module, but then I've always been a fan of that facility.

So far so good.

I think the exposure compensation slider is much more effective than before too.

Haven't tried the print module yet . .

I was just about to order this until I checked the min specs for it.  :(
I'm still using XP on my lappy so it looks like I am under-spec for it to run smooth.
Will have to make do with my 2.7 Vers

I'm beginning to get to grips with the changes, and very much liking this version (taking aside it runs leaner on my Mac).

I am deliberately running side by side with LR3 because i just want all images in LR4 to be processed using 2012 processing engine. I might be making some work for myself, but whilst i have the time - i might as well use it inefficiently!

Just makes me wonder what Apple can possibly offer with Aperture that could impact this version of LR?

My guess is they already have impacted this version.

Aperture used to cost ¬£loads and then along came the app store and made it very cheap.  This is the next LR release after that change and LR is less than I expected.....

In other news.....open the CD case and look closely at the pics.  The left hand one looks very like an H4D with a tether cable but

1. the cable is in the wrong place
2. LR doesn't yet support the H4d (or any Hasselblad) tethered.....

Been doing some printing, both colour and mono, and the additional two sliders in the print module, brightness and contrast, help to fine tune the process, whereas before there was occasionally a need to tweak the exposure a little to end up with a print you were satisfied with.

I feel, as they say, your pain.....  This is a little more like buying a car because the advert shows it driving on water only to find out they are lying.

Hasselblad expert reckons it's actually a Hasselblad with Leaf or Phase back.  They ain't supported either.  Since he's clearly shooting Lightroom 4's signature image that's somewhat odd.

In other news, performance is currently atrocious.  I'll let the Mac calm down (for some reason it's rebuilding its Spotlight cache of about 6 TB of data and LR is building previews that I didn't really ask it to).  If it's no faster tomorrow I'll be using LR3 until the next point release comes out and/or asking for a refund.

OK - performance is back to "normal".  I'd guess maybe 10% slower than LR3 but I can live with that.  And it may go away.

I've found it to be much faster than 3, especially catalogue import. Although synchronize folder seems to be a bit slow at times.

I normally right click on the shot to export, LR3 the menu comes straight up, LR4 is taking maybe 6-8 seconds for the menu to come up.

And on that note - i can only say "well done Apple". So will we see LR4 start to appear in the App Store?

I find LR4 to be much faster as well.  I am waiting less for it to do things.

Um, no.  That would be a bizarre thing to do.

So in general we're in favour of big companies using market dominance in one arena to attempt to destroy another company's market share in another?  I seem to remember M$ losing a pretty big legal case over that......

A little more on LR4.

The softproofing facility is definetly worth a try. Whilst I've got my screen/printer/paper profile pretty well organised for colour and toned images, the soft proofing facility does help get everything 'spot-on' as far as colour replication is concerned.
