cs 4 book

can anybody tell me a good book to learn the basics of cs4?
I've had a look on e-bay and there are quite a few, so if anyone has had any experience with one any help would be good.

Oh my, with a professional application like CS4 there really aren't any basics.   Seriously though, I've worked my way through 3 of them at various times. One I fell asleep with (far too deep (although v.good) for my needs and this was 'Adobe CS4 for Photographers' by Martin Evening. The second, well the least said about this the better - a book by Scott Kelby but as it's long since now on the refuge tip I can't recall the title anymore. The third book 'Adobe Photoshop CS4 - Classroom in a Book' by non other than Adobe Systems themselves was probably the best of all and I can highly recommend it. Also comes with an accompanying DVD by the way.

I take it you do know that by going to the Help menu (when online) this will take you to the Adobe tutorial site ?

the Scott Kelby book was one of the one's i was looking at online, glad i didn't get that.
I had only just got used to cs3 when i was forced intop an upgrade due to getting a new pc, well i suppose i wasn't forced but i really didn't think it would be so different.
And i have had a look at the onsite tutorials, i think i'll go back to them with their book that you mentioned, cheers.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the book. It was only after reading it myself and completing the exercises that I had a clear understanding of how the Pen Tool works and now feel proficient in it's use - something that before I had never quite got to grips with.

I have a couple of books by Scott kelby and once you get over his writing style I find them very good.

Another good author is Mark Galer - I've not got a book of his covering cs4 but I have for elements, and that was a good read.

I have had a cs4 book for Christmas but I've not looked at it yet. I can't off hand remember the title even! When I get home I'll have a look!

Yes I think that was my problem Mark - there's only so much American style humour (term used loosely) one can take in a lifetime and after one book I'd reached saturation point.
