Title: Buying from grey importers
Post by: jinky on January 12, 2015, 07:37:49 PM
My only experience of buying through such was a D7000 I bought as a back up 2 years ago from HDEW. Came with a 3 year warranty from them using "Nikon approved services" instead of the standard Nikon guarantee. Have to say the camera did not wow me from early days. Never sharp enough and found myself using it only on holiday for snaps. 2 years on I spent an afternoon experimenting with it with all my lenses and discovered the back focus problem I had found and thought adapted for using fine tune with readings of up to -20 was still not enough. Decided to test out the warranty and through HDEW (them paying for postage) sent it off to Johnstones of Glasgow who were indeed Nikon / Canon camera engineers. Despite the Christmas break I have just got it back - probably 3 weeks sooner than Nikon would have managed and at first glance looks great. Sensor cleaned for me, focusing spot on after quick run though with lenses without af tune switched on. Great service and makes me much more confident about using HDEW again - oh and I saved over £200 on original purchase!

I have purchased a lens and a camera body from them with no complaints.

probably better service than you get from a UK based company as I get fed up of being ripped off with inflated postal/courier charges because of my postcode and I'm on the UK mainland

I've also heard very good things about Panamoz, speedy service and honoring their 3 year guarantee with Nikon approved service centers.
