Title: AVG 9
Post by: Alfonso_Frisk on November 12, 2009, 08:24:04 PM
Has anyone upgraded to AVG9
if so have you or are you experiencing any problems since doing so ?
I,m having a load of slow browsing sessions on this lappy yet the desktop vista using V8.5 seems to be OK as does another desktop using avira  all 3 on same network

also using firefox and get loads of error messages in the console such as
Security Error: Content at http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/ may not load data from http://cameracraniums.com/forum/.

any ideas folks?

or could it be down to the recent firefox upgrade 3.5.3

I used to use AVG - upto V8 I think - but when it stopped downloading updates just over a year ago and I got no response from their Tech support for a month (It was the paid version too, so I expected more!) I jumped to ESet NOD32.

So the fact that you are having problems now, doesn't surprise me.

Sorry I can't be more help!

Had trouble with avg a while back, may have been a virus see this thread
http://cameracraniums.com/forum/index.php?topic=373.0
I changed to avast av & have not gone back but a scan through MS liveonecare did find something that was stopping me accessing av sites, there is a link in the thread above.

Another vote for Avast. My PC started to crawl on AVG 8.5 it is like a new machine running Avast. I have moved a couple of friends over too and they think the same. Try it and see you can always go back.

Been on avg for many a year with no probs. But recently my laptop fan seems to be running in overdrive. I can only source it down to avg 8.5. Also the annoying pop up telling me to update to avg 9 is p***ing me off. Might have a look at avast now and see what it's like.

Thanks for the help/comments people.
Ive installed avast, and despite the warning that there is a conflict with it and Zone alarm, all seems fine at the moment.
Just done a scan which took an hour and not a thing found.
Will assess it over the next few days

I'm using AVG9 on a laptop under Vista and a Netbook using XP. I have used the free versions since about AVG7 and have never had any problems...  BUT I have heard of people having problems with the paid for version which seem to do much more. Perhaps the answer is to stick with the free versions.

Hi Cann
like you I have used the free versions for some time and without issue, and still do on a vista desktop. (v8.5)
Ive really only started having problems since V9 upgrade on this  lappy, but at the same time I also upgraded FF to v3.5 and also installed open office.
It was after the 3 prog upgrade/instal that I started having browsing issues as stated in OP

Strange - I have FF 3.5.5, Open Office 3.0.0 and AVG 9 (Free version) but I've not had problems.

Do you use WOT (Web of Trust) with Firefox - if you do rate this site as it come up as not enough ratings - If you dont use it it is a worthwhile plug in for FF and it's free.

Anyone else using WOT - Rate this site....

Look  HERE  (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3456). It seems useful and has not caused problems.

Right
I have avast installed and my slow browsing sessions have stopped so it looks like av9 was the issue.
However I'm confused with avast.
I cant see a setting for setting up a daily or weekly scan.
AV 9 used to scan at mid day each day and there was an option for full or quick scans.
Is there an option in avast ?

Thats the downside with Avast, you have to start it manually unless you get the paid for version. I manage ok but you could always set yourself a reminder on outlook.

You may be able to schedule it to run at a certain time with the inbuilt scheduler in Windows.
