Camera Craniums: The Photography Community for Enthusiasts

I've just posted some pix taken using my new toy - a crystal ball. (The shots I deleted by accident were the same sort of thing). Obviously I need to learn and practice more - next time the weather clears!

Lessons: I need to ensure the ball is in completely shaded, and preferably me as well. Depth of field control needs more investigation: Do I or do I not want the background in focus, or the edges of the ball. And yes, keep the thing out of the sun while handling it. I've felt several "pin-prick" burns as it concentrated bright sun onto my fingers.

But it really is fun to experiment with.

I quite like the blurred background as it makes me focus (excuse the pun) on the main interest of the photo. For me the inverted photo doesn't work as well as the others, I find viewing it a bit awkward.

But overall I enjoyed looking at them.

I nearly got myself one of these a few months back when a few Leeds based photographers were sharing images on facebook. Works well with sunsets but i decided it might just eb another unused prop fr me largely due to the issue of it being an upside down image that would make me want to be doing PS work to turn it around. Nice efforts to start though.
