You just condemned nearly all of my fellow countrymen.
Cycling in the Netherlands seems the polar opposite of what it is here in the UK. Cycle paths everywhere meaning the roads stay clear, and the cyclists seem more considerate from my experience. A completely different approach.
No Lycra on Dutch roads, except in official races. Cycling is a cheap, easy, quick (especially in cities) and comfortable way to get from A to B, not a race.
It is also a form of transport used by all age groups, from toddlers to octogenarians.
Maybe OB meant to restrict his condemnation to British City cyclists?
I'll chance my arm here and say that I reckon the original comment was based on UK cyclists - the aggressive commuters who jump red lights, ride up the inside of trucks making close turns, bang on car roofs, ride the wrong way down one way streets, ride in pedestrianised areas, the MAMILs who block roads at weekends riding in pelotons, etc etc . .
Meanwhile I might get my bike out for a shot, if it ever stops bl**dy raining.
I'm sure OB meant those; I cannot for the world imagine, he was talking about Dutch pensioners on sit up and beg bikes.
We had a few dry hours over the weekend, but not enough to get a fresh shot for the competition after getting started on, but not finishing mowing the 'lawn'. So I have edited a picture from last autumn, when it was also raining, but my Pentax DSLRs are weatherproof :)
So, Recycling:

It so happened that a major cycle race event came through the village on Sunday.

I took lots of snaps but none that pleased me as much as the one I've entered in the competition, who just happened to be passing during the event.
