Very seldom use flash for my macro shots. Did a review of it in DCM some months ago. It works well but the price is a bit steep. :(
Most of my macro shots are taken handheld with the Nikon 105mm VR plus 2x converter, and in good light works well. Usually take four or five shots to make sure I've got at least one spot on. Depending on the light try to use F11 or F16 to increase the DOF. I don't tend to use a tripod, as most times you will miss the shot by the time it's set up. The more you take the better you become. ;D
I bought a similar one from the states earlier this year - cost about £80 inc duty.
It looks exactly the same as the Ray Flash - a friend of mine bought one at Focus for about twice the price!
Anyway, the point - I have used it with my 350D and EFs60mm macro lens - works a treat actually - no harsh shadows.
Thanks you guys,
In between the torrwential rain around here,i,m using the RF more and more, and liking the results, the one on going problem is the damn thing working loose !!!!!

Thats weird, cos I rarely tighten mine up - its a snug fit!!
