FAILING LIGHT
Chat away folks........ Weekly competition Saturday 14th March to Sunday 22nd March 2015
Inspired by next Friday mornings great eclipse in the UK. If in the UK you might want to take a shot using the lowering light levels BUT take care of your eyes and camera equipment and don`t aim at the sun with either without taking the required precautions - see below:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2994195/Next-Friday-morning-Britain-turn-day-night-time-century-great-eclipse.html
(Just to be clear I don`t read the Mail - it just came up first on a search!)
To broaden it out and accommodate all I have called this Failing Light as I want to see your best shots this week of the light beginning to go / failing whether natural , electric or in some other way. If you are covering the eclipse it might be of how people are observing it / the tools you are using to watch it. Of course that limits your shooting option s to Friday morning and the weather may scupper it so you might want to get a back up prior to then just in case using other light sources.
No editing restrictions
All photos to be taken by midnight on Sunday 22nd March.
Pictures to be posted in the entries thread no later than 23.59pm Monday 23rd March 2015.
Poll will be up Tuesday 24th March 2015.
Winner to be announced Saturday 28th March 2015.
The Rules for the weekly competition are...
By entering you agree to take responsibility to:
Post a topic on, or before the Sunday following your declared win
Create an entries thread
Create a chat thread
Create a poll for that weeks comp and declare the winner on the Saturday
(if for any reason there is a problem and no subject is posted by the winner by Monday night admin will advise second place winner to post the topic asap, do the poll etc
Oooooo a theme that requires some planning. However aI have a plan......
Well so much for that eclipse - woke up to rain and complete cloud cover. I dug out the telescope from under layers of dust in the basement yesterday, hoping that there might be a chance. Still I did see the 1999 total eclipse.
So I went for this:

Nice one H - I had a similar idea in mind in case of failure but nothing so grand so back to the drawing board. Now - who set this daft topic!!!
Roll on 2090! Will film cameras be back in vogue by then?
Hi, I've been away for a while. Lots going on, but hoping to get active here again.
Just a quick question, is time lapse allowed, would it work on here??
It's something I'm planning on having a go at.
Cheers
Hi chris welcome back. Nice to see u here again
Time lapse OK with me Chris
In with a quick hand held shot almost in the dark as I explore the digital noise levels versus ISO on my new toy ;)

This was taken in really poor light, with tripod and slow shutter speed. Hope it meets the criteria

Cheers Chris. Hope to be more active again.
May have something for this week, just need to get it into the laptop and see if it has worked. No time for time lapse this week. Maybe one for the future.
Have taken some images but really struggled this week! Will see what they are like when I download them to mac
Quick one from me as I have hundreds of images to edit from my last paid wedding gig. Have to get a move on though as I need to prepare for my daughter`s next week when I am shooting preps, photobooth and couple shots whilst passing to a friend who is covering the rest. It`s all go!
As Daylight Fades .. the lights come on

I have 2 and cant decide which to enter..grrrrr
DD, when I have trouble choosing I like to look at the thumbnails and the one that is clearer when small usually gets picked.
Here's my entry for this week. Thanks to kinky for getting me out to take this shot, which I wanted to try for a while but couldn't motivate myself. The conditions weren't ideal, and I messed up the settings a bit, but now I know what to do next time. This is why I like the comps, it gets me out shooting when I might not otherwise.
EDIT: autocorrect changed "jinky" to "kinky"! I'd correct it but I think it's funny ;D

I`ll answer to kinky too - I do with my wife ;)
As the competition was inspired by the Eclipse I couldn't enter any other shot?
