Title: Wish List
Post by: anglefire on May 09, 2009, 07:11:37 PM
Having just replied to the My Kit thread, I thought I'd start one asking what you would like to get next!

I'll start with a couple of bits.

EF300mm F/2.8L IS
EF135mm F/2L

Neither which are likely to be in my bag in the near future - unless the lottery coughs up  ;D

For the immediate future  would love a Nikon AF-S VR 70-200mm f/2.8 IF-ED but won't be able to afford it this millenium, so a Nikon AF-S VR 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 IF-ED will have to do instead but it still means saving for some time  :(

I'd like some talent.

But I'd never be able to afford it.  :(

As for stuff, I would like Adobe software to actually be priced so that mere humans could afford it. I would like a prime lens and a macro lens and a few SDM lenses, and a proper flashgun, and some lighting, and a tripod less than 50 years old, a camera bag less than 30 years old, a couple of battery grips, a set of filters, a decent A3 printer, a bigger monitor, and some other stuff I haven't thought of yet. Probably.

And world peace.

I personally think a lot of your wish list is over rated so dont feel bad. I have a 50mm prime & flashgun that rarely come out of the bag, adobe is probably great if I could be bothered to spend several years learning how it works otherwise the one that came with my camera covers my needs. The talent thing I could use.

My wish would be for a Bigma, but even if I could afford it I could not justify the expense as it would not be used very often.

Would'nt mind a Nikon 70-200mmvr - but the 70-300mmvr will have to do me for now. Quite fancy a really good macro lens - something like the Tamron 180mm.

For me I would replace my Sigma 530 with a Canon 580EXii and look to replace the Sigma 17-70 with a Canon L lens of the same range (if they made one :( ). To get either I would have to come out of retirement and earn some money or win the lottery ;)

On my wishlist at the moment is a good macro lens, something like the Canon 60mm EF-S f/2.8, I also wouldn't mind a battery grip and a second speedlite.

I bought an old all manual 50mm f1.7 lens on eBay for £12.00. It's so good I'm trying to save up for a 'real' modern 50mm lens with at least an auto aperture ring (not that bothered about autofocus to be honest) - my word they're pricey, even second hand.

Where to start?

HVL F58 (I can wish, F42 most likely) for dual wireless flash set ups. Brolley, diffuser, etc...

50mm F1.8

17-50mm F2.8

That'll keep me going for a while.

Time...time alone to experiment, time with other enthusiasts to get ideas/techniques, time in front of the computer to play with PSP and edit the shots, time ... pure and simple.

I could be here all night!  ;)

Top of the list is a battery grip and an EF17-40mm f4L for my newly acquired 5D... I was thinking about the 5D MKII but I'm not sure if I can justify it... Whatever happens, my 400D and the Olympus E400 and lenses will be going soon.

After that, it'll be an EOS 7D if it pans out to be as good as initial reports show. I can't find anything about it so far that I don't like (apart from the price).  ;D

I'm up for the time to go and experiment.
I suspect each of us has the talent if we have the time to pursue our hobby.
I'm either too busy doing the day job or tooo knackered when i'm not - shift work makes you loathe to stay out late or get up early if you can avoid it!

As for physical tangeable kit - the 100-400 L would be nice or a 400 f5.6 L. A battery grip would also be nice.

If we're talking lottery win level - i'd need time to think about what would be necessary as opposed to what could be afforded for the sake of it!

I don't know about others but I find it much easier when I don't have a big choice of what to use - one camera and 2 or 3 lenses - perhaps extra ones for specialist stuff if funds allow - otherwise it would be dark before I decided which combo to take out ::)

Totally agree Sue, now I have the D300 I am a happy bunny, my equipment consists of Nikon 70/200 VR, Nikon 105 VR macro, Nikon 18/70 (much underated lens), SB800 Flash, bits to get the flash to front of lens  & extension tubes, that's it and if I'm honest I don't feel I really need anything else.  I do buy other bits but they get sold on as I find I don't need them, I can carry what I have around all day if necessary.
Only thing I would wish for is 100 ISO on the D300

I`m pretty lucky, got most of the kit I need minus the 600mm F4 L IS... ;D

Next upgrade will be a 7D I think.

As previously mentioned, I`d quite like the time to use it too!

I could've sworn I replied to this thread. Maybe it was a similar thread in some other forum... hmm.

Wish list?

Nothing. Honestly. I've got all I need for now.

Love the D60, and don't think I'll need to 'upgrade' for a bit. Don't think I will, either, until the day that Nikon's cheapest in their line up has a CMOS sensor.

Trying film for the first time in years, and you can get some bargains, like a £30 Nikon F60, mint condition (although prices of stuff like the F3 are going through the roof). £50 for a mint Nikon FE!

I kind of like playing with the old Nikon kit, picking stuff up from ebay that looks interesting. Got myself a 135mm prime the other day. How long has it been since I used one of those!

Perhaps I might get a 120 roll film camera (be4ch was saying he was keen to get one of those last time he and I went for a beer).

I got Lightroom the other day, which is terrific, as I needed something that would let me process lots of shots quickly.
