Gulls do funny things. I photographed one struggling with a McDonald take-away not so long ago. Can't remember if I uploaded it to CC. If not, I'll do it soon and they can keep each other company!
Just checked and it's already there (see below); if they have found each other, we'll soon hear the racket!

They take Brown paper bags quite often
I often wonder the empty brown paper bags are for nests. Brown paper bags (being made from wood in the first place) are closer to natural nesting materials than white which are died and plastic bags which are manmade.
Birds aren't as silly as humans think but can be as lazy.

Thanks for the explanation Beryl; I didn't know this.
In this case however, it was after food. There were some chips left in the tightly folded bag.
I watched it dance and jump all over the car park, shaking the bag and banging it on the ground. In the end it got its reward and a few chips spilled out. Very hard work for some very unhealthy food!

This is a shot we got in the recent snow when we went to feed the birds - as you can see the gulls were taking food from our outstretched arm - but their judgement isn't always spot-on and the shot shows the moment when one gull crashed into my head! Only injury was gull pride (I was wearing a hat) - and one of the others got the bread!

We got some great shots (was using the 15-85 and mostly @ 15). This was old 'one leg' who seemed to be surviving well, despite his/her disability!

Love the shot of 'One Leg.' Birds are very good at surviving with a disability.
Feeding gulls is not such a good idea though, as they become more and more used to being fed, and pester people who are having a snack. They're often quite vicious.

Whilst I'd agree in principle (gulls are pretty much the rats of the sea - although more and more are inland these days), the worst offenders for pestering us were the Swans, followed closely by the Geese!
Hope they weren't flying round your head! I'm terrified of aggressive swans.
Nah, they're a bit ungainly for aerobatics - but you can see how "friendly" they were in their effort to get food. No they didn't cause any real problems and no we didn't give them bread (they had bird food). Only time I've ever been able to actually hold a Swan's neck - (s)he didn't mind as I was filling the beak end!
You can see it was cold but you can't see that there was a bitter wind and it was snowing!

What a gorgeous shot! The swan and the other bird with the red beak (bill?) have utterly fallen in love with the food!
Red bill would be the Muscovy - he's been there for a couple of years

In Winter, when all food is in short supply, most birds will disregard their normal caution for easy extra food, as it may be the difference between life and death. I've had Goosanders stand next to me even thought they can't eat the bird or duck food. I can't believe that shot of yours with them feeding at your feet - no Coots? :o
