Popular culinary publication, "The Top Nosh Review" is planning to celebrate it's landmark 1,000,000,000 edition with a one off, special cover shoot. They have commissioned the members of Camera Craniums with the task to provide a photograph worthy to be on the front page of this iconic magazine.
They have specified that the subject can be anything found in the kitchen/to do with cookery. This can be anything from utensils and ingredients, to equipment and cooking. They would like the subject(s) to be shot in PORTRAIT, so great care should be taken in planning/framing your photograph. You can use as few/many objects as you wish.
Due to the theme, photoshopping/editing is permitted and there are no restrictions, use any technique you wish to produce that winning cover shot. Montages and triptychs are allowed, but please make sure your images are taken within the time frame specified (see rules below).
The theme for this week's comp is "Yes Chef!"
Pictures to be taken between 00.01am Monday 26th November 2012 to 23:59pm Sunday 2nd December 2012.
Pictures to be posted in the entries thread no later than 23.59pm Monday 3rd December 2012.
Poll will be up Tuesday 4th December.
Winner to be announced Saturday 5th December.
The Rules for the weekly competition are:-
By entering you agree to take responsibility to
post a topic on the Sunday following your declared win
create an entries thread
create a chat thread
create a poll for that weeks comp and declare the winner on the Saturday
(if for any reason there is a problem and no subject is posted by the winner by Monday night admin will advise second place winner to post the topic asap, do the poll etc)
In case of a tie, the first entry posted wins.
photos to be taken during the specified dates, ie Monday xx to Sunday xx as above
pictures to be posted in the entries thread no later than 23.59 Monday night
Now there's a challenge - nice idea Matt
Cheers Andy. Thought I'd go for something that won't involve travelling about, especially with the current weather situation. We can all stay warm and dry, with a nice big mug of tea/coffee/large whisky  as we work on an idea! ;D

Still to come up with inspiration for this week :-\
Oops. Shot this on the spur of the moment, forgetting all about the requirement for a portrait format.

You could always rotate it clockwise?......Making me hungry looking at that egg though!

Simon caught me napping on this at first too - his entry is rotated
Not rotated actually. Items copy-pasted individually to new layers with drop shadows, canvas size increased to portrait format, background cleared and textured. (Matt said we could!)
I know - it never was going to be the sort of shot you really wanted but I'm unlikely to get another chance this week.

True.....no holds barred for this one, let your artistic spirits run free
My spirits are running too free at the moment!
Still haven't got something, and instead of editing the shots I took yesterday, I've been playing with knives. And software. And once I get going , I cannot stop.
Don't know where it'll end, and if I'll enter it, but for the time being I'm playing happily.
Playing with knives can be very dangerous - make sure you have a responsible adult with you at all times ;)

Don't worry H, the responsible adult was at home, wondering why I raided the knife drawer.
I switched to fruit, as that gives a much more colourful result. Played around again and I think I've got one that is suitable. Will be uploaded later.

This is what I was playing with.

Then switched to fruit and ended up with this:
"I Love Fruit!"

This is, in all probability, going to be my entry.
I also made a version with a border so as to accommodate text, but as the brief was for a cover photo only, I decided to leave the actual make up to the editors.
Got one ready, hoping for a mince pie based entry later, but the light is really really bad today.
So, choose your starch . .

Managed to get a shot of the mince pies, so this is my entry:

Some stunning entries in so far guys.....keep 'em coming...
Sorry for doubling up on garlic Highlandscenics, it was the only thing to hand other than a tin of beans.....................

I'm trying to get as much use as I can out of the black tiles I bought specifically for using as a background.
Ooh, like the use of the black tiles, gives the shot that extra ompff.....nice job....nice to see another garlic shot in though, they make for good subjects.....Good luck

Your Fruit cover will certainly make the editor sit up and take notice R. Can see this on the news stand being well thumbed through. Bright, innovative, eyecatching, creative, way outside the norm, where do I vote!

Oh Alan, you make me blush! (Very nice on a dismal, grey and wet day!)
Thank you for your praise, very much appreciated.
Voting starts when H puts the poll up, normally on a Tuesday morning.
Nearly forgot to do mine. Did the shots using my new compact - Sony HX20V. So far getting nice panoramas with it but not sure about the rest so thought more practice needed. I was a real multi-tasket on Sunday. Cooking the dinner, setting it out and taking the shots as I went - men can multitask you see.
Lasagne - pasta it`s best?
(http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10154/normal_food_cover.jpg) (http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=12873&fullsize=1)
Multitasking is simply a way of taking longer to several things than it would have taken if you had done them one at a time, and all of them to a lower standard. :legit:
But I'm sure dinner was lovely. 8)
Have a gander at THIS (http://www.ted.com/talks/paolo_cardini_forget_multitasking_try_monotasking.html) for a laugh (hopefully)
