Title: Canon D20 and Neewer speedlite help
Post by: Alfonso_Frisk on February 03, 2012, 05:25:35 PM
A young tog I know has an issue with his kit which I cant help with so thought I would ask in here on his behalf.
He bought himself a NeewerTT520 speedlite and tried it on his "old 20D" afterwards the camera pop up flash would not "pop up". He also gets some other unconnected probs with this cam so decided its knackered and bought another 20D.
Once again after using the speedlite on the "new" 20D, the pop-up flash will not activate or "pop-up".
He does not get any error messages and the speedlite is supposedly compatible with his 20D's.
In my limited dealing with flash (on a nikon) I have suggested cleaning contacts etc but this has not helped.
He has also bought a 50D but is scared to put this speedlite on it (rightly so)
I'm guessing this speedlite has "fried something" on both cams ?
Anyone had dealings with Neewer spedlites?
TIA
Alf

That was quite a common problem on the 20D and 30D.  If you look under one of the rails on the flash mount (On the camera) you'll see a very tiny little button.  It will be stuck down.  and the camera still thinks the flash gun is mounted.  ;)

There was some info about this somewhere, but I'll have to search for it.  Anyways, you need to somehow get that button to pop up again.  ;)

I once had a Neewer remote trigger that only worked when it wanted to so I took it apart to check it out and found the build quality was terrible and the soldering laughable so I bined it. Would not be supprised if your friends flash is of the same quality.
Maybe a visit to ebay for a decent flash would be best   :(
