OK all,
Carol (Sarasocke to some), is over in the UK for the weekend of 3rd & 4th March 2012. So, it seems like a good excuse for a meet.
Carol would like to see some sights of London - so this is a proposal for a meet around London.
With it being a Sunday, the South Bank will be active, as will Speakers Corner - whilst the financial district will be quiet.
And that's just for starters.
I haven't nailed the exact time and place for meeting yet, but feedback is certainly welcome to all possible attendees.
Thanks for posting Andrew!
I'll be flying over already on the 3rd and will be staying for two nights most probably - if anyone knows of a cheap and cheerful B+B I'd be most grateful.
So from my side of things we'd have the whole of Sunday to play with :)
I don't know one end of London from the other, so I'll leave the venue suggestions to those in the know.
Count me in! I'm happy with Southbank or Speaker's Corner or the financial district (which is good for Petticoat Lane, Spitalfields and Brick Lane) or anywhere really!
I'm just reading a who-dunnit set in Brick Lane - I didn't realise it actually existed ::)
Brick Lane - i'd like to say it is the origin of the phrase 'bricking it' when indicating fear, but that would just be wishful thinking.
TBH, it is possible you could fit all three areas in, according to how long you're prepared to be out for.
You could meet at London Bridge Station
Walk along South Bank to Westminster and catch tube up to Hyde Park.
spend a few hours heckling the speakers - or even taking some photos (and if Aber's joins in be amazed at how close up he gets to his subjects)
then catch a tube over to Liverpool St or the Monument for the Financial District just as the light is getting low.
In between you can fit in some lunch and a good excuse to rest your feet   :)
Sounds like a plan  (although you know of my dislike of the tube). Hopefully Keith (Krennon) will want to come along too.
good point, don't think i have his personal e-mail address - can you advise him please Irv.
As for using the Tube, i envisage only 2 trips on the tube at most - and that's using that suggested plan. Who knows how the day will pan out - you know how these things work ;)
Sounds like fun - count me in! Thanks for arranging this Andrew. Looking forward to catching up with everyone.
Its a shame but I think thats the day I'm going to Focus with some members of my camera club. Will let you know later if I can make the day.
Sandy
Yes, Focus-On-Imaging is on Sunday 4th March until Wednesday 7th March 2012.
I reckon I'd be up for this..
Glad to see you're still around Martin ;)
Looks like we should be able to get a good group together. I'm really looking forward to it!
ooh, Focus is that week? Excellent - i know where i'll be on the Wednesday then  Nice D4 out the window for £3k or a 1DX out the door for £4k.
Tell you what, if i could get either for those prices i'd get them - heck could make a profit just on eBay
Gutted I can't make it guys sorry I really wish I could, but I've booked the thur/fri before that weekend off work as Georgia and I are planning to go away, possibly down wiltshire/hants borders or somewhere in that general direction we were thinking maybe Salisbury as we've never been there.....but if that changes I shall let you know obviously and I hope the weather holds out for you all and you get some great shots in the bag....
Brick Lane still the best place in London for a proper Jewish fresh baked bagel with cream cheese and cucumber delicious although I think there's only two Bagel Shops left now used to be loads there....(going back some 25 years now or so though)
Have a great time and Carol I hope you thoroughly enjoy your visit you'll be in good hands with fellow cc'ers and yep I'm jealous..
Irv thanks for the heads up...
Just wanted to remind everyone - I've booked my flight and hotel (Heathrow), so Sunday the 4th is definitely on 8)
What a shame you'll be in London - you could have come to our show on the 4th and met all our dogs ;)
There'll be a few 'old dogs' around Speakers' Corner.
Now now Alan, no way to talk about people who have provided you with so much material over the years 8)
Will be firming up plans over the weekend, and then publish meeting times and places etc (Waterloo at 10:30 again? ;) )
I'm definitely coming, but will probably join you further along the itinerary, ie. if you're meeting at Waterloo and going to Southbank, I'll come from Westminster and meet you there.
I'll be at Speakers'Corner from about 1pm, I'll get them warmed up for you ::)
Thought I was going to make this one. I've got to chauffer my wife that day. As we're going to be over the east end, I might try my luck around Shoreditch and Bethnal Green.
Nick
I have no idea of distances between points in London, so I guess 10.30 Waterloo is OK for me if that's the plan.
My hotel is out at Heathrow so I'll be getting the tube or the airport express into London. I really don't know which is better. The Airport Express takes me into Paddington where I'd need to take the circle down to Embankment and one stop down to Waterloo. Or the tube (Picadilly line) as far as Green Park and the Jubilee two stops down to Waterloo.
Probably the Airport Express - they run every 15 minutes and only take 15 minutes to Paddinton. The tube takes a lot longer.
Having written all that, I think the Airport Express is the way to go.
Anyway ... :legit:
Is here somewhere specific at Waterloo?
Hi All,
i'm doing this whilst the broadband is still working (long story for Sunday).
Due to engineering works, i am having to travel up via coach to Victoria.
Might i suggest we meet at Little Ben (just outside Victoria Railway Station) for about 10:30 - then wander down to the South Bank for a bit - before jumping on a tube up to Hyde Park to meet Alan and get some abuse off the soap box bandits at Speakers Corner.
South Bank at Westminster is about a 20 minute walk.
I think my coach back home leaves Victoria for about 19:30, so i'm good up until then - we can update places to visit as the day goes on etc...
I'm easy any way. Have to get my tube map out again ...
Little Ben is good for me - see you there at 10.30.
Carol - I can meet you at South Ken if you like. It's good for the Piccadilly line from Heathrow or the Circle line if you take the express to Paddington. We are then only two stops from Victoria.
I'll have to arrange a meet in Derby one day.....We could just say "Meet outside the chip shop at 10.00"!
Graham. :D

Would you be around early afternoon/midday-ish on Monday?
I'm driving up to Sheffield from London. I could drop in for a coffee :)

Wow Carol. I'm genuinly touched by your offer to drop in for coffee.
Unfortunatley I'll be in Birmingham (Oldboy country.) that day. That does, of course mean that you'll be able to spend more time in Shefield (Big Bill country.), an infinitely more attractive city. I don't know how long you will be there for but there are some wonderful sites to see, and if you choose your viewpoint well, the hills beyond.
Thanks everso for the offer to meet and enjoy your time in the US of K!
Graham.
PS If you get to meet Abers, the coffee's on him!
Pity Graham ... maybe next time.
Sheffield is my home town, but I've not been for about two years now. I'll be staying with an old school friend and at least hope to meet up with Paul (Jinky) who I've known for years online but never managed to meet. If the weather's not too bad, we might get out to the Peak District, but I'll be leaving again on Thursday, so I won't have too much time. Also have to visit the elderly aunt (94 years young).
If anyone fancies a trip to Cornwall, we'll be near Penzance from the 21st April for 4 weeks.

Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news but the weather for Sunday in the London area looks poor, keep your fingers crossed
I'm afraid all the free coffee has gone, Graham used up the whole year's allocation on his visit! :D

Ah well, we've had some adventurous weather days before - and it's as much about meeting other people as getting pictures
Speakers Corner might get a knock if it's too wet - but plenty of other places to visit - like Leadenhall - that are relatively dry.
And when has Eileen never had a raft of 'what's going on' info at her fingertips ;)
I will double check with Mrs B that we have nothing arranged for sunday, that I should know about and confirm things later!
Whatever the weather, I'm looking forward to seeing you all!
Irv - don't you dare not meet us! :P
If Speaker's Corner gets a knock, can we meet Alan somewhere else?
Anyway, sort it out amongst yourselves - I'll be at Victoria at 10.30:) I'm already flying to London tomorrow morning so I'm off till then. I've got Andrew's mobile number as well as Del's so I should be able to find you.
Andrew, what time and whereabouts is the initial meeting point?

It's lashing down here, so sorry won't be coming, and I've been looking forward to it. :'( Hope you have a good 'un.
Sorry I had to cancel too, went bowling last night and aggravated a back injury. Really didn't fancy lugging a rucksack around with kit in it...
:(
It was wet, it was cold, but it was jolly good fun! Thanks Andrew, Carol and Irv for a great day. I think this just about sums it up!

Yes, it was a great day - despite the rain.
Now about to process my picture from the day - sorry, pictures ;)
I hope to have a couple to post - just a shame the weather hampered things a little.
Shame about the weather. I`ll have to malke one of these London meets when down seeing my daughter one of these days. Having cancelled my planned trip to Focus on Imaging this year I`m looking forward to meeting up with Carol at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park when she moves on to Sheffield for her next bit of her visit to UK.
Yes the weather was crappy yesterday but the company was good and we had a laugh or two! I hopefully will be able to get some shot up soon once I reviewed and edited them.
Glad to hear you had a good day the weather was rubbish.
Sandy
I'm still in the UK, managed to get online this evening :)
We had a great day, I'm surprised I didn't catch cold tho ...
