There's a very good Aviation Viewing park at Manchester Airport giving excellent views of the runway, with the aircraft often taxiing infront of you. There's also a concorde there, nimrod, and few other little bits.

Those of you that are familiar with the Airport, you can drive down through the tunnels underneath the runways, and access the country park to view aircraft from the other side of the airfield. Parking is limited, but free. shown here on Google maps (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Manchester+Airport,+Manchester&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=17.413577,39.331055&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Manchester+Airport,+Manchester,+Greater+Manchester,+United+Kingdom&ll=53.34407,-2.278762&spn=0.01714,0.038409&t=h&z=15)
You can also use T1's multistory as a good viewing point onto the apron.
