I'm in the market for a new compact.
Any suggestions ? what compacts are you good people using
As we don't have any members on here, yet. ;)
It might be worth keeping an eye on this thread. http://community.dcmag.co.uk/forums/thread/626180.aspx ;D
May have answered this before in another life I like my Fuji f31fd and that whole line has a good rep, even the 12 MP F50fd apparently isn't the shocking noise fest you'd expect with that resolution. Depends on how much you want to spend really.
Cheers I will look at that range. Looking at spending 250 notes max
Just been having a peep round Amazon. Bizarrely the F30 and F31 have gone up in price to about £280. I paid £125 for my F31. On the other hand the F40 is £119 and the F50 is £167. Both those look very good value.
Just found this one http://www.warehouseexpress.com/?/news/digpop/1018.html
dont look to bad for the money
Yeah they're supposed to be dead good. Not really a pocket camera though, leaning towards bridge.
My brother has got a 6500, takes lovely photos, but as Andy says it's not really a pocket camera, although it is quite small compared with a DSLR. If you were looking for a small bridge camera then this is excellent value. :)
Thanks fellas. I'm adding it to my maybe list. Mainly want it for carrying around and in the car plus work without the need for humping my bag of DSLR stuff aound. My current compact is a coolpix 3100 and a couple of years old now. The battery compartment lid is u/s and wont stop closed without a great lump of extra strong sticky tape on it.
Well took delivery today of me new cam ;D
Opted for the Panasonic FZ8. Battery is on charge now and will be taking it to work with me tonight to have a play and go through the manual;D
Hope to get some nice shots with it to post in the gallery.

You had a play with the new cam yet m8, what's it like? :D
Hi Alf
I bought a Fujifilm A900 in May to use while walking around Toronto city centre, ideal for the pocket palm size and 9 mp too, 4x zoom, xd card, good wee machine but got stung in Glasgow airpot, i thought it was meant to be duty free i asked the girl, she said it is...!!! £186. for it, but have seen the A800 alot cheaper, Dixons was the seller i bought mine at, wont be back....lol

I have a Sony DSC-W20 that i carry around in my handbag. All my point and shoots have been sony and have had no trouble with them whatsoever absoloutely love them however saying that i wouldnt swap my nikon for a sony dslr for all the crown jewels of england. Hate the handling of them they feel awkward to me.

The wife wants a compact for Xmas, so I had a troll around the local camera shop. Tried the Nikon S series (nice but a bit flashy and small lenses), and the L series. The ergonomics of the Nikons was quite nice, but in the end I settled for the Panasonic Lumix FX07, as it has a bigger screen at the back and (most importantly) the test photos I did definitely had less noise in the dark regions. Lenses, though seemed about the same (Leica lens in the Lumix...Nikon in the others).
We do have an old Coolpix E775 that takes 5 seconds to start up, has a 1 second delay after pressing the trigger and takes ages to write to the CF card. This was driving the wife up the wall, so we really needed to get another.
Myself, I was quite enamoured with the Nikon P50 and P5000....but I'll first have to get much more use out of the DSLR..

Well I have only played with mme new Panasonic FZ8 a couple of times. Taking some getting used to after me D50. Lots of settings in different jargon to get used to.
Will have to have a full day using it
