Looks like my lappy power supply is on its way out
Suspect the cable/plug end which connects to the pc is the problem as a little jiggle etc sometimes works.
Anyone know of a decent supplier of such things. (not flea bay).
Google returns a result such as

Ive not heard of this firm so reluctant to use as yet

Laptop most common repair/failure is where the powerplug sits in the motherboard. I would not spend any money on a powersupply before checking out that the problem isn't in the laptop itself. My friend has a highstreet shop where he repairs/sells PC's and laptops. Apart from screens, the powerpoint is the most vulnerable. If there is any movement there, it is probably the laptop plug to motherboard fixing.
Sorry, I hope it isn't. :(
Should be able to buy one from a PC shop/store, as they now produce a universial adapter to fit any laptop computer. Maplin do this one:http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=42622, but you need to check the power matches your laptop.
Does sound more likely to be the socket on the laptop. If you wiggle the power lead and not the jack does it play up ? if not, I think its unlikely to be the power lead jack, so if you wiggle the jack in its socket and it plays up it could be the socket or as simple sais the soldering behind the socket to the mobo. Pretty simple fix if thats all it is, a good tech with a soldering iron should solve it in 10 minutes :)
Looking like the lead. If i move it around the icon indicating mains or battery power starts to change on screen.
Same if I disturb the trailing lead if I move my leg with lappy on knee
UPDATE( If anyone interested)
Got new power adapter delivered today. 20 notes
via Amazon from justlaptops ltd
