Title: THE MANY WONDERS OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Post by: ABERS on January 02, 2010, 07:48:06 AM
It's been said many times what a wonderful pastime/hobby photography is. Apart from the wonder you feel when looking at a particularly pleasing image, have you considered all the other wonders that are involved with it's practise. Just a few spring to mind.

No Comments - I WONDER why I bother?

Can't get it as I want it - I WONDER why?

That's not how I saw it - I WONDER should I have moved to the right a bit?

That's a prizewinner!? - I WONDER what the judges saw in that?

Strange image - I WONDER if the author saw it like that?

Shall I tone it? - I WONDER if it will imporove it?

I just WONDER if there are any more 'WONDERS' you experience? :-\

I Wonder how i didn't see 'that' angle?
or
I Wonder how i missed 'that' shot?

And i wonder those thoughts every time i've been out on a photo shoot or meet with other photographers and see the pictures they have produced!

I wonder why things happen when someone is talking to you whereas, during the other four hours or so nothing does?  :'(

As Samuel Johnson once quoted "All wonder is the effect of novelty on ignorance".

I wonder why interesting things happen around me when I don't have my camera handy but don't happen when I do? ::)

It's called 'togs law'
If you want a photo free time - carry a camera. If you want to spend all your time cursing at missed shots - don't carry a camera

Happens to all of us would be photographers!  ;D

Good thread !

I always wonder how the dog's tail is always in the corner of my landscape shots so that I HAVE to crop in post.

The link that Mark put up for the 7D review by the Norwegien fella took them much colder than that.
I believe he mentions -40 on his Arctic trip for which both the 5D MkII without battery grip and the 7D with battery grip along with a 1D something or other all carried on without a care.
Apparently the 5D MkII weather sealing dies a death with the battery grip attached where as the 7D doesn't.
Can't believe Canon don't know about this or haven't tried to fix it!

If you read the Norwegien chaps blog he mentions not dropping the camera in the sea - unlike the 1DsMkIII - which did get a dunking - and still works ok!

I've seen other shots of someone else who does a lot for National Geographic of Seals and artic stuff - and he uses 1DsMkIII's which he put in underwater housing to get some shots (And they have even leaked!) and he leaves them outside all night so they don't get condensation inside!

Oh Alan - don't be such a spoil sport.
You know what boys are like with their toys!
Whether it is a car with a V8 engine, the latest Mac, Nikon or Canon, Plasma TV or games console.

It was the very basis on which the card game "Top Trumps" came into being - mine is better and bigger than yours  8)

'Twas ever the same in film days - the colour saturation in the film, the grain of the film, the top asa or shutter speed your camera could operate at.
As i pointed out on Thursday to a lady at a camera shop - my old Canon A1 had the ability to expose film at an asa/iso rating of 12800 - even though none was forthcoming from any shops i could access.
Given it was the camera of the '84 Olympics it has taken digital an awful long time to catch up to that rating - but now of course it is going beyond it and with better IQ in the process.

There will always be those interested in the technical side of things - and those who just use the things without giving a hoot about how it works.

But i did wonder how we got off topic
