As per discussions at the 2009 Speakers Corner meet, i am now posting proposals for a meet at Speakers Corner 'during the colder weather' for Sunday 24th January 2010
Hopefully all of the snow should be finished by then.
I am proposing a later start of 11:30 at Waterloo Station by the old Eurostar Terminal after which we can all jump on the tube up to Hyde Park in time for all the excitement to kick off :spam:
This is aimed at being a 'shorter' meet due to possible cold and also targeted at Speakers Corner.
If the weather holds, there is an option of adding on extra location(s) for a bit of low light photography afterwards.
Feedback is more than welcome to this proposal.
I would be interested in going on the 24th January.
Sandy
So - we have a proposal for 24th... Any more up for that date?
It's in the diary, hope to make it.
hope to see you there
Sounds good to me. See you there.
I should be good for the 24th too
Getting a right little party
Don`t see why not!
Is this still happening? I might be able to make it :)
I will have to join up with you all a bit later.
My son is playing football for London under 18s again and I have to drop him over at Eltham at 1130am, so I'll drive up and find you in the park
I'll add this to give it a reminder.
At this time, and with the weather having improved - this meeting should most definitely be going ahead.
Irv - you know what we all look like now.
Jonathan - more than welcome - but i wouldn't bring the 'blad- we can't guarantee you will get it home safely  :2funny:
If you can make it and decide to come - your best route by train is up to Waterloo East (Charing Cross Service) and then walk along the walkway to Waterloo - and over to the high number platforms where the old Eurostar place is found.
Any others wish to join in - please do not hesitate to ask if you need instructions.
I've every intention of making it, but will see you at the 'Corner'. Don't forget it is still getting dark about 4-15 and the regulars there tend to get there earlier than in the Summer. I will get there about 12.45, weather permitting.
Look forward to it.

Cool. Err, how will I recognise you all?
They'll all have cameras ;D
,,,but possibly won't be wearing Photoradar Tshirts,,,,, ::)
I think Jonathan we will recognise you
We all bear a strong resemblance to any pictures you've scene from previous meets and we tend to latch on to any one who is looking like they're waiting for some one.
I think it's the choice of camera bags and ruck sacks that give it away.
Finally, as per previous meets - i will PM my mobile to any one wishing to join in who has not already got it.
This has always proved to be the catch all.
Just realised - the 24th is THIS Sunday. I'm really losing the plot.
As said, i will be up Waterloo for about 11am onwards - hope to see you there.

Yeah that's why I was asking ;)
In theory my train will be at Waterloo East at 10:50 so I should be at the Eurostar about 11 - 11:10 depending how many people I have to punch to get through Waterloo concourse :D
Don't waste time and effort punching them - just shoot them!
just a quick bump up for this trip - and see you there!
Are we going to stay on for an twilight shoot?
Hopefully I should see ya there about 12.30 - 1ish
i'm bringing my tripod. The low light part of the shoot is optional and dependant on peoples desire - or dare i even say - the weather.
That's about when we'll be there Irv. See you then.
Andrew
The lens is now working on auto focus. I posted the problem on the pentax forum and they suggested cleaning the lens contacts. I wiped them with a cleaning cloths and it ok! Thanks for everyone looking at the camera it was much appreciated, also thanks Andrew for suggesting the outing.
Sandy
Glad it wasn`t a more serious fault sandy. Shame it caused abit of grief though.
I managed to get separated from the guys later on on the southbank, so my apologies for not saying bye!!
All in all, speakers corner was good fun as ever if a little chilly! Mind you, I haven`t looked at any of the pictures yet!!
Hope you all had fun. I'm sorry I couldn't make it, but look forward to seeing the pictures. :)
Hi all,
would just like to say it was good to all those who made it today - and it was good to meet Jonathan and his new toy.
Shame that Eileen was unable to make it - but there will be other trips.
I've only just got in as i write this - so will be posting pictures on Monday...
Too tired to bother now :o
Great meeting up again and seeing all those frozen faces.
Thanks to Andrew taking the lead and organising it once again.
Cheers.....Alan
It was indeed
1. Good
2. Cold
Thanks for sorting this out. I'm sure to pop down again.
Though you do meet some pretty dodgy characters.....

And, just to be on the safe side - we managed to get moved on twice from the Southbank by the London Eye and County Hall because we were using tripods on private property.
Nice pic of Irv by the way Jonathan. You definitely looked like the kid with the new toy
Let There Be Light!

::) :tup: ;D
Looks like you all had a great day and returned with lots of great shots.
Hope you all had a great day out, looks like you did. Some lovely pics uploaded already. ;)
As some of you have noticed, I've added a "Cold weather speakers meet" (http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=320) album to the gallery as with the last meets.
One day I might be able to attend one of these meets. :'(
That would be good Mick - and i did notice the gallery section for the pictures - once again , thank you. I did go and have alook just in case
However - i do have plans to turn one of my many trips back to Suffolk into a meet, as it seems there are sufficient numbers around that area to make up a meet!
So watch this space!
A work friend told me today that he heard that Billy Bragg was at speakers corner yesterday just wondering if Alan went there again
* I am led to believe that Billy Bragg is a socialist pop singer - power to the people and all that!
I've got lots of Billy Bragg stuff - he did a great album with Wilco and Natalie Merchant of Woody Guthrie stuff

Blimey Irv. I've only just thawed out from Sunday!
Not too sure if there is any activity other than on a Sunday, but I've read somewhere that B Bragg is making a stand about paying his income tax, so it might be part of his publicity machine using the corner to make a noise.
Sound familiar? ::)

Link works fine for me Mark. ???
Works for me too. :) coincidentally Nick Clegg was in my area today so I went along to take a few snaps. I was curious, really, to see what it would be like and wanted to practice my social documentary skills. Very interesting. Humumgous scary press pack (small children could be lost forever in that melee) including Dan Chung (http://theguardiantheobserver.newsprints.co.uk/c/33605/dan_chung_photographer). A good few characters with their own axes to grind, like a mini Speakers' Corner. Lots of young party hacks waving banners, joined by some labour hacks waving theirs, and a Tory posted van passing by regularly just to annoy everyone. It was all quite good fun and I'd highly recommend it for anyone wanting to practice their camera skills. I've got a few snaps of local characters but nothing special. Will post in a day or so.
It does make you realise quite how hard it is to come up with a really good image in the middle of all that mayhem. It also made me wonder what it must do to the personality of the individual at the centre of that kind of storm day after day. Given that you'd need a healthy ego to try for that job in the first place, how difficult must it be to keep any sense of reality? And what must it be like when the fanfare dies down and you're just you again?
Works for me now too. Probably IE8.
Good read too.
