Hi

Today Russell, John,Gary and I went to visit the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas Lichfield .Staffordshire, I saw this and was Inspired By ABERS aka Alan IOTW 2 Minutes silence

Hands Shot At Dawn

The memorial portrays a young British soldier blindfolded and tied to a stake ready to be shot by a firing squad.

The memorial was modelled on the likeness of 17-year-old Private Herbert Burden, who lied about his age to enlist in the armed forces (WW1) and was later shot for desertion. It is surrounded by a semicircle of 307 stakes on which are listed the names of every soldier executed in this fashion.

ABERS

Well spotted Dave. The carnage of WW1 will never leave us I'm sure and the story has a certain vicious twist that makes it all the more horrendous.

Great shot and the story behind it makes it all the more real...
Apart from the fact that War really is pointless as we all know how many men (and women) were shot for this or cowardice when the majority were innocent...We were taught at school how ruthless Stalin was massacaring millions of his own people but I think we have been equally guilty of the same crime maybe before Stalin and on a lesser scale but guilty nonetheless....makes you proud to be British doesn't it  :-[
