I have three removable drives plus a couple of memory sticks all of which all of which I can import into L/room if needed.  ???

Hinfrance

Importing was not the issue per se: it was not being able to 'add' without copying to another location. According to the Adobe forums this used to be possible up to LR3, but no longer. That's progress for you!

Blimey - just a comment along those lines over on the poll vote/ chat thread!  :legit:

Hope you're wrong. Chris had indeed not been that long on DCM, and a big site like that, of course takes longer to demolish than a smaller, newer site.

Chris, let's hope that these forums that you were on and that have gone down is no reflection on you or CC stands no chance. ;)

Doing a spring clean after the painter has left, and finding lots of larger and smaller bits of chalk under mats and the carpet.
(He had 'cleaned up' before he left, and removed the large marks, that were immediately visible.)

ok, let's be honest when talking about the DC Mag forum/ site.

It had plenty of potential, and plenty of followers/ subscribers providing plenty of information on how to improve it - both content and technology wise.
But Future, in their wisdom thought they knew best and went with the 'radar' brand for everything.

Sadly, their radar was not tuned in to the aspirations of the DC Mag following. The site died. The magazine sales pretty much followed it.

Some moved over to here, some gave up all together and others stuck with it - though not for too long.

Any forum/ site is only as good as its following - and that is only going to happen when the content or discussion is current and fair.
Trolling and agressive behaviour towards others is always a put off - hence I enjoy this site, no trolling or agressive behaviour.

There is no doubt this site could do with a major reboot (no offence Mick) - but such a think takes time, knowledge, and sadly in these enlightened days of hits and revenue (usually from advertising) - a lot of time and money.

You really need some one/ some people who are able and willing to review equipment, software and write about it. Workflows, revenue generating trends are just as keenly followed articles and of course, the site gallery/ portfolio. On that point alone - do you have an option for subscirbers to have a portfolio or just have an image of the day/ week scenario? What about camera clubs? Should you give them space? Or photographic events - should they have a calendar section?

Again, all of this needs constant work, which sadly means money to cover the costs.

Maybe it would be easier to start a fresh topic in which people are asked to say what they would consider important to a tog site/ forum... See you in a minute

Speaking of DC Mag, and by extension Future, I see they have another photo site, photoventure.com that has apparently been around since at least Sept 2012.

Hinfrance

Yesterday. Syncback toasted my main backup drive. Having to backup data from scratch again. Not the end of the world, but irritating.

That's a bugger Hinfrance - I've been using Syncback pro for years and it is spot on. Though if you get the config wrong it will do some damage.
