Good weather lens. that's a good way of putting it. I've given up on AF with mine it hunts too much even in really bright sunshine. Still it is a good lens, I keep by my back door for shooting my bird feeders where it's always within a turn or so of focus.

Tried it on a few agility shots today and the focussing was'nt bad at all - it was just a bit long and there were too many obstacles that kept getting in the way. Still pleased with the quality though - might not match the Canon 400mm prime but it only cost about a quarter of the cost of one of those 8)

I'm not sure if it's the camera (Sony A350), the viewfinder or my eyes but I finally processed about two weeks worth of shots I'd taken at mostly early evening at 400 ISO and the vast majority turned out blurry even thought they looked perfectly sharp to me, in the eyepiece. This lens can either give me cracking shots or be dismally disappointing.

When researching the lens before buying I saw a review on a Sony/Dynax site that said the lens gave bad results on the high resolution models from Sony - I think it was on the lines of bad CA. One often overlooked feature of the D300 and D90 is the inbuilt CA reduction which dpreview reckons to make all lenses seem that bit better than they might on other cameras. I can't put that to the test at present. One thing that was proved again yesterday when hammering out action shots was just how good the 70-300mm vr is.

Ah, good thing I didn't buy this lens to use on the a350, I'd be really really annoyed. I should look for that review then. At least I still have my Minolta film camera. And film, somewhere. :o

Great! But did you get a photo?  :P

Some longdistance ones that I'll have to have a play with. I made a careful detour to get round to where they'd landed but when I poked the camera round the hedge they'd already cleared off!

Must have heard you coming!
After a day and a half of clouds the sun shone this afternoon. Managed to get a few shots of Dragonflies, but only one on the lake, and he took over an hour before he landed close enough to get a shot. Chased another up a path for ten minutes, but he wouldn't let me get close. Every time I approached his head turned, and I'm sure he was watching me. Some people walk past, and he flew into a tree were I managed to get up close to take a few shots.

Nothing unusual in that, as I often sit and wait for the wildlife to appear. In the late winter / early spring I spent about 100 hours including two seven hour stints watching the Grey Herons and their chicks. Whilst sitting there I do wonder what else I'm missing, but you have no choice if you want certain shots.  ;D

I read the review, it pretty much matches my experience. I guess I'm going to have to try the stopped down apetures and leave the camera in A to see how that works out.
