Can't you promote it in an email to all members? Or don't you like that idea?

Once I've decided on which shots to enter, I'll give the comp a plug on Flickr.

I've posted a link on my Facebook Page.....I got a few mates on there that are into Photography and a couple who are into filming.

Taking the Missus' (and my camera) to the local Wildlife park tomorrow. Lots of potential for a spring shot there as most of the wildlife are native species and no doubt will have young'uns....

Thanks to all that have tried to push this comp.   I'm amazed though, we've had very little response so far,  not one new registration from it this time.  I guess there's plenty of time yet though, so we'll see what happens.  ;)

So far only 45 views over my six photos on Flickr with a direct link to this page; a bit disappointing. I'll have to think of a different, and more 'attractive' photo that fits the theme. But let's not lose hope, maybe the photos will start a new life from the groups I put them in.

I don't personally want to advertise on DCM as this is my sanctuary from there! And I don't 'do' facebook or twitter.

Talking of DCM....I cancelled my subscription to their magazine a while ago, I get an email today asking why?!!?......I felt a bit hacked off to be honest, even though the email was meant with good intentions, I feel that I dont have to explain my actions to anyone, nevermind a publication........

I know they do this sort of thing; trying to find out why you don't love them anymore. Would people ever rethink their decision and continue with their subscription? Like you, I'd be annoyed and even more determined not to go there anymore.

I'm going there (DCM) les and less, only, I did enter last week's comp so I'll have to return and do my ups and downs!

Perhaps it is because the prize is movie editing software for a stills competition? I have something I can enter but I am honestly not interested in the prize.  Besides, do I need to be a resident of the UK or anything?

Very true Don, and I did think this myself at first.  But MoviePlus X6 can also be used to make slideshows etc from your stills, and a lot of stills cameras also shoot video.

Remember the next comp I'll be giving away PhotoPlus X5.  ;)

I`ll be having a go when we get spring weather in Leeds! Been using Windows Liver Video maker / DVD maker for a couple of stills videos abd OK but like to see what Serif does and might nuy one anyaway if not lucky enough to win it.

I'm not a video person either, but I have a friend who would be very happy with the software. And you could always enter and 'donate' the software back to Mick, so he can hold another competition.
That has happened in the past, and will probably happen again.

Jinky, the rain may never stop, and is traditionally part of spring. You may have to use the couple of dry (sunny?) minutes that some days give!

Phew, just checked I've got until the end of the month to enter.  The last comp you ran I realised that I'd run out of time to enter.

I didn't think I'd be interested in movie software but I've got a video button on my camera that I've never pressed (well only accidently) so this might make me give it a go if I was in the fortunate position to win – unlikely though with the skills here at CC, yes I am talking about you Guest.

I would love to win the movie/DVD maker - am already considering buying it - for saving some home-made VHS tapes. (I don't need any still photo or slide show software though.) However, spring still looks like a long time coming here - been very cold since March, heavy rain today and snow forcast for later.

I recently used MoviePlus 6 to put some of my neighbour's old VHS video onto DVD for him. It not only worked a treat on the format transfer, but there are some very powerful adjustments and filters built in which allowed me to improve the colour and clarity of the DVD version so that it was better than the source VHS.

It is a prize well worth trying for, so everyone (except our Mac users) get your entries in

I'm glad I won't have to fight it out with Matthew alone!

And that little sentence about Mac users, gives me peace of mind.

I will try and plug this comp on 'That site.'

It'll only be any good to Mac users if they have a Windows virtual machine installed - which some will have, I'm sure.

One of the problems with my Fuji bridge is that I cannot attach any lens filters to it, simply as I have not yet found filters of the right diameter, accordingly with the comp' rules stating that PP was allowed, combining in part, a section metred off the sky was applied to the photograph (by way of getting the shot in the best light as I could without a necessary filter).

May Dawn

(http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/albums/userpics/11049/normal_Dawninmay.jpg) (http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=11985)

If this aspect breaches anyones view of what PP should or should not be allowed; I simply ask that the following image wholly comprising of a single exposure, is allowed to be included in its place.

Admin, Could you please swap the photographs at the first complaint, thank you.

  With the low number of entries (just an idea to create some added interest) a winner could be decided by a couple of Polls - Poll 1 allowing viewers three votes for their top three, which would then provide a shortlist entries from the top six pics for a run off Poll 2, allowing the viewer just one vote to choose their favourite photograph.  :legit:

Obviously the votes should be from registered members and voting for your own image should disqualify the image  :D

I don't envy you Mick! I'd say get the meaning/advice from some of the top class photographers on CC. And if they don't PM you, PM them!

I'm personally not in favour of voting as I'll be away from Wednesday, and won't be able to take part. There may be more people on holiday at this time of year.

My friend, a volunteer photographer for a local charity for whom I hope to win the software in due time (whenever), shot some video for the charity this morning, and is looking for free editing software.

OK, all I can do is appologise for the lack of input around here, I'm just so busy with other stuff at the moment.

What I want to do if possible, (and I've mentioned this to the mod team), is to hand the running of the comps over to the Moderators and members to try and save me a bit of time.  Plus it might generate some new ideas into the mix.

That way, all I'll have to do is edit any posts already there, add a few banners etc, and send off the prize.   I'm pretty sure anyone from the mod group can use the announce feature too, so if I can leave that to you guys too that would help.   ;)

We now need you all to help out and come up with ideas for the next competition, to win a copy of PhotoPlus X5.

Sorry if it looks like I've abandoned you all, this isn't the case, and will be back to normal real soon.  Gotta shoot now, more work to do this morning unfortunately.   ::)   :legit:

Just an idea while we wait upon the result -  For the next Serif comp' - How about a series of three images or a triptych  (that perhaps tell a story, beginning middle and end) of any subject.  :legit:

(blows cobwebs off the page... :D).........That sound's a great theme Andy....ooh....I'll have to look up triptychs' to understand what they are....still, another genre to master!.. :uglystupid2:

Congrats Mike. On to the next one.

Abers, spring was the short bit between New Year's Eve and the long period of rain just before the Islington Olympics.

Wow,  thanks all for the congratulations, really was very surprised to win.

I've not been around much lately, I'm trying to get certified in a new software product (to me) to try and keep myself in work. I've managed to get the first part passed, just one more exam to go at the end of August.  I have also had last week away on holiday,  trying to avoid all the sport  ;)

Again thank you for picking me as the winner, I'll be in touch tomorrow Mick and thanks for the nudge Alf.

Trying to get certified sounds rather ominous! Glad you explained it.

Good luck with the next exam!
