Most MPs can claim up to £23,000 a year towards the cost of a second home using the additional costs allowance (ACA).

New kitchen: £10,000
New bathroom: £6,335
Washing machine: £350
Flooring: £35 per square metre

They can also claim for items like televisions, beds and refurbishment of their properties, as well as up to £400 a month for food.

Full story here All MPs' claims may be published

What do you reckon on this?

Mick, i'm not surprised in the slightest, but TBH who wouldn't claim it if it was there?

On the other hand, if your home is in Yorkshire but your job requires you to be in London a lot of the time while making sure you get back to Yorkshire a lot of the time to keep the natives in your constituency from getting restless it would seem you need two places to live.  Not a lot of job stability being an MP so it would be foolish to give up your place in Yorkshire when you get elected and you might want to keep your family there.

Still, it's a lot of money for the taxpayers to shell out so why not build a huge dormitory in London for them?  Sort of a youthless youth hostel?   Very cost effective I should think :)

A second home? According to Mapquest it's a 6 hr. drive from Glasgow to London. How many MP's live more than a few hours from Parliament?
Wouldn't a fleet of limos and drivers be cheaper?
And more, much more than this, I did it my way
