Would have loved to have got here and met up with you all and seen that D700 in action Carol but just too far from Leeds for a one night stop and tied to school holidays for my wife, who never misses a chance to go to Cornwall. If I see a bargain break nearer the time who knows. If not have a great time.

Paul - pity, you can't make it - actually it would be two nights the other guys are staying. I'll be back in Sheffield no doubt before long, we can meet up then :)

Andrew - yes I see what you mean with Newquay  There is certainly plenty of interesting action on the streets - it would make me pluck up courage to take more candids  8)
And the surfers .. I must have taken hundreds of pics of surfers, and still haven't got it right ;)

I'm really not fussed about where we meet up, it's the meet itself that I'm looking forward to.

Hope to see you all at this meet. I'm free that weekend and barring major incidents should be there. :)

Now dealing with the accommodation thing and will come back to people shortly with prices etc.
Once we have accommodation sorted we can then set about arranging a meet up point with Carol that will provide an enjoyable day and who knows - even some photographs to take home!

OK,

an update in case anyone still wishes to attend.
I have now confirmed accommodation for 4 of us attending this - a fifth will be arranging accommodation to cope with the family pets attendance.
Any one else wishing to attend needs to let me know by the end of this week to try and get the deal in.

It now takes to do a bit of research on where to visit for sunrise and sunset photography and where to visit with Carol.

Suggestions are more than welcome to see if they can be used.

Look forward to seeing every one then.

Hi !

Where have you booked the accommodation ? Newquay ?

yes - at a Travel Inn.

So, with that done it's now time to plan the source of our adventures.
Remind again what you were keen to do?

I posted on a couple of forums, for peoples advice for places...

"Croyd and Staunton are too very local beaches which for me are nicer than Newquay itself."

"On the way down take time to go to Dartmoor. If you go to Lydford there is a gorge there and afterwards you can take in Brentor Church ( a church on a hill) nice in itself to photograph but also wonderful views. There is so much to see and it wont take you too far off your route if you are taking the A30. Much is dependent on the weather of course. "

"worth driving to mousehole, a beautiful harbour with with stunning views"

"the whole coast from newquay down to st ives is pretty good to trek and shoot
godreavy light house are and the sands at hayle
there is a hill near carbis bay called trencrom and gives good views of the surrounding countryside "

"Newquay is too commercialised in my view but if you go a bit further up to Trevone Bay,it's a superb little cove/Trevose Head , i used to live in Nth Cornwall and the north Cornish coast is littered with superb little places towards Bude with places like Port Isaac, Tintagel, Trebarwith Strand (very dangerous at high tide), Crackington Haven."

"Bedruthan Steps is just up from Newquay, great place for some nice photos."

"If you wish to review some images of Cornish Photographers try visiting this flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/cornwall-flickr-users/ may give you idea's on where to visit."

"Up the coast a bit you've got Tintagel  Enjoy - it's great down there (though we were in Harlyn Bay near Padstow last time we went)."

"Bodmin Gaol is pretty funky. Otherwise a trip onto Bodmin moor might be cool, there's some stone circles up there."

"Get to Polperro if you can, Mevagissey is nice too."

"Tintagel is a great place for capturing some properly Cornish shots, as Esther suggests.

A bit nearer to Newquay is Perranporth. Perranporth beach has an ace little rock arch on it (and a pub at the other end of the beach, which I used to go to fairly regularly - very cool indeed, especially with a band on!).

The Helford Passage is probably a bit far away if you're only in Newquay for the weekend, but is very much worth a trip some day. I imagine you could take endless scenic shots there!"

Who will actually be joining us ? How many cars will be driving around ? As we are staying a bit out of the way, I can pick at least three people up. Or you can all come and pick me up  :-* It's not always easy to park, and it can be expensive.

Just for the record, we are staying at Mother Ivey's Bay near Trevose Head, between Harlyn Bay and Boobys/Constantine on the north coast.

I think the whole coast, whether north or south has something worthwhile. For me it would be good to go somewhere we we DON'T go every year, for instance where dogs are not allowed  ::) But then you mentioned something about family pets ....

The gardens are all bursting with colour in May - rhodendrons etc. Our favourites are Pencarrow and Trewithen. Caerhays is also quite glorioius.

I did suggest Heligan/Mevagissey/Charlestown, but I really don't mind. Port Isaac (of Doc Martin fame) and Tintagel would also be an idea.

To get the surfers it would be best to stay near Newquay, maybe coupled with Bedruthan Steps.

Family pets refers to Irv's dog coming down - but that will be going off with Mrs Irv not coming for a photographic session
Cars we can use may be either 1 or 2 at the moment - the jury is still out but we will confirm details before you come over (much sooner i suspect).

I would like the thank Martin for his wealthy input on where to visit and if you add your choices Carol then i can study in full and work out what will provide the greatest photographic opportunity for all.
Although not possible we try to cater for every ones tastes, the only real issue is that Sandy is unable to tolerate a Royal Marine style fitness hike to some remote piece of coast nor can she handle climbing a 200ft rock face
(come to that i think Martin might be struggling there - even with a few pints   inside).

So, tastes generally are:
Sandy - telephone boxes or something for the camera club competitions (make no mistake some of Sandy's telephone box pictures are almost as good as Dave's but none in Preston)
Martin - action (sports/ wildlife) and then giving any thing a go
Eileen - you have to ask?
Irv - what ever catches his eye
Me - Eileen's apprentice really - same thing but no where near as good!

So we can take that pictures of dogs will not be on the curriculum!

Also, any suggestions for sunrise or sunset pictures will be more than welcome. Lands End does a good sunset shot but i suspect others will prefer the non standard shot.

Oh yeah - that means 5 of us are confirmed as coming at this time...

5 is the number of people confirmed as able to come and meet you whilst enjoying the south west peninsula again.

As for Lands End - don't worry wasn't high on my list. Can always do when you're not present

Sandy

Hi I do not mind waiting in a nice coffee shop while you go rock climbing

Sandy

Eileen

Thanks again for making all this happen Andrew.   I'm really looking forward to it. I think a few of us (including Sandy, if I remember right?) would like to take this opportunity to try some early morning/evening shots in a safe group environment, and unless we get up at a truly ungodly hour that will need to be somewhere fairly nearby. I'll do a bit of research at the weekend to come up with some possibles, unless Carol or others can suggest good sites? Of course during the day a chance at some stage to snap a few flowers would be great and I'd love to go to Heligan or one of the others gardens Carol suggests if that suits others, but Cornwall is so generally lovely that we'll be spoilt for choice. ;D
