This week's theme is Decoration(s) or Ornament(s).

Any interpretation of the theme is acceptable, it desn't have to relate to Christmas; hopefully this is a straightforward competition when many of us will be getting ready for the Christmas break.

No restrictions on Post Processing. I think this offers possibilities in all sorts of photo styles and does not restrict anyone wherever they are in the world.

Pictures to be taken between 00.01am Monday 16th December 2013 2013 to 23:59 Sunday 22nd December 2013.
Pictures to be posted in the entries thread no later than 23.59pm Monday 23rd December 2013.
Poll will be up Tuesday 24th December 2013.
Winner to be announced Saturday 28th December 2013.

The Rules for the weekly competition are...

By entering you agree to take responsibility to
Post a topic on the Sunday following your declared win
Create an entries thread
Create a chat thread
Create a poll for that weeks comp and declare the winner on the Saturday
(if for any reason there is a problem and no subject is posted by the winner by Monday night admin will advise second place winner to post the topic asap, do the poll etc.)

In case of a tie, the first entry posted wins.

Photos to be taken during the specified dates, ie Monday xx to Sunday xx

Pictures to be posted in the entries thread no later than 23.59 Monday night.

Nice theme, I really will try to enter.

Chris, I slightly edited your post.

I went to my local shopping street to find some Christmas cheer in the shop windows, but it was a sad story. The optician had a nice, festive display; most of the other shops were mediocre to say the least.

This is one from the optician's shop, and my entry:

Got up early this morning so I got this out of the way!  So much going on this week, glad to see there are a few entries.

I decided that I would buck the Christmassy trend, and go for an object that has meaning for my family and I. It is the remnants of a pipe that was hit by tracer fire during a dog fight (if a medium bomber can possibly be capable of such an engagement) returning from a bombing raid in 1943. My father was the pilot of the bomber; we don't know who was flying the Junkers 88 but he didn't manage to shoot my father down. His plane was so badly damaged that he was recommended for a DFC when he managed to get it home. But he was blackballed. His squadron thought he had been awarded the medal but was too modest to talk about it, however he never received it following the intervention of his Wing Commander who was none too fond of Mr H senior's attitude. Later he became a Wing Commander himself and was awarded a military OBE. I am lucky, my father was not only my hero, but he was a true hero. This small mounted object reminds me of his skill and gallantry every day.

The theory seems to be that as long as a man is a failure he is one of God's children, but that as soon as he succeeds he is taken over by the Devil. H.L Mencken.

Very poignant.
A true hero as you say, not a 'modern' one, like the overpaid footballer, who becomes a 'hero' because he does what he's paid for, and scores a goal.

Yes - been playing with my bokeh kit again. Did this earlier in the week but was waiting for a better shot - no time!

May the Force be with you.

Great personal story there H - nice to have an unusual reminder of your hero dad.

I sat at home late last night after a particulary long and demanding day at work, when I suddenly realised I only had a few hours left to get my photo taken. It follows the Christmas theme too and not not very origina I';m afraid. I'll post it later.
May the Force be with you.
