Happily we got no further snow overnight and the suns now out - so fingers crossed for a good thaw today :) Costing me a fortune feeding the birds!

Put some seeds down for the birds at Sandwell Valley and couldn't believe the number of Magpies that appeared, It must have been thirty plus but they wouldn't come down whilst I stood there, so it gave the Tits and Robins a chance to get some before the Magpies and Crows pushed them out.  ;D

I went all the way to Norfolk yesterday to find some snow - and on the way back it was snowing pretty heavy at times and came back to a smattering on the roads here too!

Effing Windows updates. I gave into the nagging from the system the other day and installed 5 updates. Now my VPNs are completely inaccessible even though I have uninstalled all of them.

The passwords are 8 characters and allocated by the servers, but vista always doubles the password placeholders to 16 characters and so I can never connect. B*st*rds.

Co-workers, it's the week before Christmas, half the office staff are off on holiday so we're down to skeleton crew. One phones in sick, she's allegedly sprained her wrist and has a note to be off until the new year. One has called in and left a message, she has to go out of town, some crisis with her daughter. The ones left behind are whinning. All except two of the bunch were let off an hour early on Friday. One of those two who stayed was actually late twice and not documented or docked time but now wants to know when she gets to leave early. A clerk at one of our sub offices has called me to say she's all alone in the office because one of her co-workers was given vacation, the other has gone on sick leave and her supervisor is no where to be found and she wants me supply someone so she can go off and have her lunch, but doesn't want our big boss to know because she doesn't want to 'make waves'.  >:( >:(

Wow, 27 pages and this is only like the 4th thing that's annoyed me.  I must be calmer than I think.

Anyway, somebody somewhere doesn't want me to go on holiday.  Background info: (1) I haven't had a holiday for at least 3 years - joys of working for yourself (2) I turned down at least one and possibly 2 weddings for this holiday (3) I'm due to fly to Venice on Boxing Day for a week's R&R.

Here's a list of the things that have gone wrong so far....

  • BA strike.  There's no practical alternative for getting to Venice and no, neither BA nor insurance would have paid for the appartment I've booked - fortunately that one's over.
  • Gatwick gets closed due to snow - just b-r-e-a-t-h-e - they have to open it eventually.  How bad can sleeping on the floor be?
  • Worst weather in years hits Venice.  It was actually snowing a few days ago.  It never snows in Venice.  Nearby it was -14
  • Pipe bursts in the apartment I'm renting.  Have you ever tried finding a plumber at Christmas?  In Venice?  I suspect that's all the owner's profit gone and now apparently it's "half fixed".  Hmm....
  • Venice is now flooded.  Yes I know.  But this is serious.  Check out the pics - http://ow.ly/Pcsk
  • there are still 2 days for things to get worse....

Probably all my own fault for deciding to take a new camera with me.
