Managed a trip to Liverpool to see the QM II.
Crap weather but worth the trip...it's huge.

where was it moored? Bootle?

I've seen it at Southampton and you're right it is a very large liner.

Boats of all varieities are referred to as 'she'. I've never heard a definitive reason for this - goes back in history some where - not quite to men wealding clubs but certainly Henry VIII era.

Will she have an anchor? Of course. The last tactic i saw in action was to take it, then knock on the door half an hour later and hand it back saying you'd seen some one nicking it and caught them - and here are your goods returned, 'we're not all crooks in Liverpool you know!'
Pay a reward for efforts and it will be safe there after. Do not pay the reward - the anchor will be melted down by the next morning and on its way to China to assist with their metal supply crisis.

Oh the tricks you learn whilst living in Bootle 

Lifeboats nowadays are more of the inflatable type so you would only see small cannisters which evolve into nice sealed lifeboats when needed. Most sophisticated modern marine safety. And of course space saving!

Good question!

   A ship is called a ``she'' because there is always a great deal of bustle around her;

there is usually a gang of men about, she has a waist and stays;

it takes a lot of paint to keep her good looking;

it is not the initial expense that breaks you, it is the upkeep;

she can be all decked out;

it takes an experienced man to handle her correctly;

and without a man at the helm, she is absolutely uncontrolable.

She shows her topsides, hides her bottom and, when coming into port, always heads for the buoys.
