Cloning Tool Advice

Something has happened and I don't know if it's my keyboard or if I have done something to the settings in photoshop. When Im trying to use the clone stamp tool, I press Alt and click the mouse to select the area I want to copy. However, though this works, my image zooms in then starts to move over the the right. It keeps moving until I exit photoshop.

I have been cloning for years and never had this problem before. Has anyone seen/had this happen?

Never seen that DD, haven't got a clue.

Although . . . have you tried cleaning your keyboard, preferably with a vacuum cleaner. Sometimes dust or other crud can get stuck under a control or option key and wreak havoc.

If that doesn't work reset Photoshop options when you start. See this page on how to do it https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

Are you sure your mouse is not faulty? Go to Edit>>Preferences>>General and deselect zoom with scroll wheel if it's selected. When zooming with the mouse scroll  wheel the image will increase in size and appear to move to the right, so it's just a possibility.

Hi DD, I had the same problem. Took me a while and Harry nearly had it.
Goto Edit-Preferences-Tools and untick the Animated Zoom box. I prefer to work with mouse and have the use scroll on mouse to zom box ticked. But that is up to you.
Since I unticked the box I have not had that problem anymore.

will try these tips. Thanks folks

Have tried all you said but have found its not just the clone tool. Whenever I touch the alt
key it zooms in then starts to move image right.

Have you unticked the animated zoom box?

What version of Photoshop are you running? I cannot replicate it anymore, and I have the scroll wheel set to zoom function.

The ALT key is the shortcut key for zooming, but you have to also use the scoll wheel on the mouse. You mentioned that the image zooms and moves to the right, can you move the mouse over to the right hand side of the image and see if the the image zooms and moves to the left.
The way  the zoom works is the image will zoom from the mouse position when the alt key and scroll wheel are used in conjunction with each other.

Might be my mouse after all. Will check it when I'm back in uk
