Title: question (s) for clikpic users
Post by: Sarasocke on February 16, 2010, 09:42:04 AM
Good morning !

So, I decided on clikpic for my website and I've almost got it finished.
Unfortunately I have no idea what most of the different settings refer to and much of it has been trial and error.

I now have two problems and was hoping that some kind soul here would take pity on me.

This is a screen shot of a part of the photo gallery.

Does anyone know where and what I have to change to get the "Gallerie/Tierschutz" on line with the rest of the text, and also how I can get the "zuruck" and "weiter" (previous and next) buttons to go to the bottom of the box instead of being in the middle of Bob's description.

It's the little things that drive one nuts  ::)

Carol,

can you advise what template settings you are using so i can go in and have a look.
I'm using a different template to you, but as you know i can go and change settings without making it all live and have a play.

Hopefully then you'll get an answer

I'm using "boxes"

Do you have the basic version or the bells and whistles version ?
What's yours called ?

Carol,

i've added the site to my signature and it's clickable.
This is a work in progress and i'm still working out how i want it to look and feel, hence i've not made a fuss about it or asked for feed back.
Clikpic is a like all other template systems. It can be infuriating at times but once you've learned how it works, then it gets easier to work with.
For me, it is now a case of getting time to work with it - but once done, it is actually quite easy and quick to work with with. (wife has been given instructions in the hope :)  )

As for what package - mine is the one that let's you post 200 pictures. I don't see a need for anything more at the moment.

I'll log in this evening and have a look, unless another Clikpicker logs in earlier and has a look. Sorry i can't come back sooner but i'm off to a hospital appointment than taking receipt of 3 grand children for the rest of the week.
They're on a trial or return basis  :2funny:

Just had a quick looksy
Nice and easy to use and pleasing on the eye.
Nice set of shots in there aleady.
One thing I would change is the site name.
A quick google reveals dozens of tog sites with the same, or near as same, title.

Thanks Andrew. I've just been out all afternoon photographing 4 standard poodles and a hungarian viszla, and I just want a soak in the bath right now ;)

Had a look at your site - did you make the pages to fit a large screen? I have to scroll vertically and horizontally to get the full picture. It's reminded me that I do indeed have a couple of things I need to add ....

Carol,

i do not recall altering any settings to accommodate screen size.
Though that said ido work on a 24inch screen and all preview is done there as well.
I do set my pictures to up to 800 pixels in the long length, so the screen that builds itself around that size. A screen of 1280 is not going to have much room to spare.
Go an look at Aber's site which is also Clikpic driven and see how that works. If it is more suable by you, then clearly there are settings to be amended as Alan only has his pictures set at 600 pixels on the long length, if i remember correctly...

600 on the long length OK.
I'm loathe to ask this Carol, but have you downloaded the instruction manual and followed it to the letter? A mate of mine tried to set his site up without it and got into all sorts of problems.

I've been following the instruction manual - I've had it running parallel all the time. I've actuall managed to get most of the site how I want it.

I'm sure there's an adjustment in there, I just don't know which one.

Carol,

see what you mean about scrolling. Tested it on my laptop which has a 13.3 inch screen and all aspects require scrolling...
I may have to give it all another look and follow Alan's practice of restricting images to 600 pixels on the long side.
More work! And i'm working through my Catalogue with LR...

Is the site 'live', I can't seem to find it.

The Clickpic team may be able to help. On a couple of occasions I've asked a question they have replied promptly and sorted out my query. Another route perhaps!

Good morning Guys !

I haven't gone online yet, as I'm still trying to get things straight.

However I will be within the next couple of days - apart from anything, my two weeks trial are up ;)

If I understand correctly, the keywords are what the search machines like Google pick up on, not just the name of the site. So if you have your name as keywords somewhere, then people should be able to find you by searching for "Andrew Brown".

My site has the heading "fotos by Sarasocke", but I shall probably call the site just sarasocke.com. Carol Schäfer is amongst the keywords, so it should work. I hope .....  :legit:

Still haven't figured out the next and previous buttons, but have sent a mail to help.
Also still have to upload more images, and there are bound to be other things I've forgotten ...  :legit:

Oh poor old Sara - from what I read she had a right battle through her life what with a bad heart, broken leg and otherwise pretty much down and out. At least it sounds as though you gave her a final good and happy two and half more years. Nice site so far - bright and clean. Well done,   I'll keep popping back from time to time.

Thanks !
I have the good fortune that a friend of mine is a retired German teacher - she's checking all my texts for me.
If any of you German speakers should find any howlers, do let me know :)

Any other crits or suggestions welcome :)

Looks good Carol. The fact that the title and the list of sections overlap is because you have the sections wording fonts too large.
I had this trouble and had two choices, reduce the font size or reduce the wording in the sections. E.G. Kontakt minus the impressum.

Try it to see if it makes a difference,

Viel Gluck!

How strange - they don't overlap when viewed on my monitor.

the issue i think is back to template size and screen size.

If i view my site on the iMac i don't have to perform any scrolling.
If i view it on the 13.3 inch laptop it has loads of scrolling.
If the site template occupies a minimum width of 1400 pixels and the screen is set to 1080x760 or similar - scrolling must take place or a work around must occur.
This is one of the great debates with the WWC3 standards - how to code a site to cover all platforms, browsers and screen sizes.
The reality is - it can't be done. What you do have to do is make sure that you comply with an regulatory requirements for the country with which it is based and targeted (eg. .co.uk means it has to meet UK requirements)

Clikpic templates cover most options and the occasional bit of scrolling is nothing to worry about - but text overlap is something that can be resolved as suggested by Alan if you get enough comments.
Not all of us in the UK speak or German so it is no big deal.
I have no cramping of your screen on the Mac but do get severe scroll on the laptop with no text overlap. I think that is down to how Firefox on my laptop handles it.
Still a lovely site and stick with it.

Perfectly Carol.

My German is very rusty and I enjoyed trying to translate your copy! :-\

OK, I've heard from clikpic - it's not possible to move the "next" and "previous" buttons in the gallery  >:(

I'll have to try something completely different, slide shows or something. As it is it looks really silly with the buttons in the middle of the text.

Back to the drawing board  :legit:
