Chat Thread

When products come to market, design becomes very important in the sale of the product. As GB is well regarded in this area what British designed product would you photograph to illustrate this point?

No PP restrictions.


Pictures to be taken between 00.01am Monday 29th April 2013 to 23:59 Sunday  5th May 2013 .
Pictures to be posted in the entries thread no later than 23.59pm Monday 6th May 2013.
Poll will be up Tuesday 7th May 2013.
Winner to be announced Saturday 11th May 2013.

Create a poll for that weeks comp and declare the winner on the Saturday
(if for any reason there is a problem and no subject is posted by the winner by Monday night admin will advise second place winner to post the topic asap, do the poll etc)

You and Howard for starters! And there must be industrial design around as well: cars (the older ones at least), architecture, fashion, album covers and other graphic designs, James Bond, technology and lots more things.

I immediately thought of the Routemaster, then the new sleek design double decker London bus, then my thoughts went to architecture. Sadly none of this is available  where I live, so I decided on something smaller. I actually went out this morning and took some shots to work with. Fingers crossed!

You and Howard for starters! And there must be industrial design around as well: cars (the older ones at least), architecture, fashion, album covers and other graphic designs, James Bond, technology and lots more things.

I immediately thought of the Routemaster, then the new sleek design double decker London bus, then my thoughts went to architecture. Sadly none of this is available  where I live, so I decided on something smaller. I actually went out this morning and took some shots to work with. Fingers crossed!

I don't think I am a product one can describe as a "come to market" type

It is hard to know what is "British" these days and we do not own a Dyson as our first one had a bad design (fault) in its handle  But I will see if I can come up with something to fit the ol' bill

A lot of cars are designed by British teams even today. Look at Apple as most of their design was by a British chap brought in by Steve Jobs to help improve sales.

No gin. ale or bitter in the house?

A mini skirt? (I wanted to go for that: a skirt and a pair of good legs. I thought I'd certainly get the male vote for that. It did involve going into town though and I had other things on the programme. But maybe your wife could pose, or you may have a daughter the right age?)
What about something with the Union Jack? A Roberts radio? Tweed jacket? Flat cap? Royal Albert cup and saucer? Windsor chair?
Any M&S stuff? A model train? Tools? Andy, you must have some well known British tools somewhere!
If I can think of something else, I'll let you know.
I do hope this has sparked something though!

I found, on the Internet of course, an article about the design exhibition the V&A held last year, and there I found my inspiration.
Margaret Calvert, the designer of most of our road signs.
Played a bit with the shot and am about to upload it.
Once I've done that, I'll come back to this post and add the photo here as well.
