sensor cleaning

Right, I've already posted this other places. Get loads of sympathy, but I'm really trying now, to figure out what's happened and why.
Used  one of those wet swab kits on my KM D5. It appears to have destroyed my sensor. It went from shiny, but specked with dust, to a dull flat finish.
When I try to take photos I just get a black screen and the shutter will only trigger once.
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

I think that you will need to take it to a service centre so that they can look at it properly and tell you the cause. IIRC there are two types of wet cleaner fluid and they are for different sensors and possibly you have used the wrong type for your sensor. Alternatively it may just be an unhappy coincidence that the sensor has failed at the time you cleaned it.

General consensus is to take it to a repair facility. I find it strange that no one else has had similar results from the stuff. Maybe you're right about the unhappy coincidence.

Tried to clean it a second time. Same result, I actually watched the cleaning fluid evaporate in seconds so it can't be soaked. I finally discovered that B&H out of New York sells pre-moistened pads for cleaning these sensors The company is Eclipse and it doesn't list the ingredients. I guess it's not methanol. So, I contacted an authorized Sony repair centre not too far from my home. They tell me Sony forbids them from repairing KM cameras. All service must be sent directly to Sony. I've been to their service centre in the past and was not happy with them.

Spin,

I've used eclipse on all my 3 DSLR's - with no issues. There is two different (When I last looked!) types of fluid. One is for the newer type of Tin Oxide sensors, one older.

I would assume, from my experience, that the fluid for the tin oxide senors isn't methanol.

The E2 fluid, seems to be basically Ethonal - but is actually a mixture of [CH3CH2OH, CH3OH, CH3CHOHCH3].

Have a look at http://www.photosol.com/msds.htm page for the links to the various data sheets.

Interesting reading. Certainly appreciate their warning about my health, too bad it was the health of my Sensor that was at risk. :( Of course the camera manufacturers, like car manufacturers don't want to encourage self maintenance, service is how they make money.

I guess this is my month for really overlooking the obvious. Despite having it bookmarked and visiting it regularly, I only just now noticed that Mick's Tutorial sites, post has a link to SensorCleaning.com. Had I read it before touching the camera I'd have been aware that one should never use methanol on the interior of a DSLR. So why do they sell this stuff and
why do camera shops stock it?
