Has anyone heard of this or used it to add features to canon dslr's? It it safe to use? Is it legal?

I've heard of it - as a Nikon user, I can't comment on whether its any use or not.
I doubt very much there are any legality issues, though I guess if anything went wrong it would invalidate your warranty...

Yes it's quite safe and legal and highly recommended, but it's not available for my 7D MK11 as yet.
