Some Oysterband from 1989

Think Metallica did a cover of one of their songs, or was that Blue Oyster or something...

I finally got rid of the last vestiges of Lightroom from my PC. I feel like a giant weight has been lifted, and my storage has acres more space in it.

I think that LR must be like Marmite - whereas I love Marmite . . .

I`ve just put Lightroom on mine  - but then I hate marmite :D
Just been told they will be featuring one of my shots in next DC Magazine Your Mission section on "Trees" possibly. Maybe they will change their minds when they get my full res shot explaining I added a flood filter plug in bit and took original as part of the excellent weekly DC Mag forum weekly  competition which Photoradar has found impossible to resurrect  thus far despite pleas from users and a dwindling online readership ;)
I bet they don`t print the last bit!

Well done for the short listing jinky. I hope they publish it anyway  :)

I did like one thing about LR - the lights out view.

But I either disliked or hated just about everything else. It has a very complicated interface that takes an age to get to grips with and then it's still not very flexible. For rendering thumbnails when scrolling it is the slowest application I've seen. To work successfully with it you have to do things Adobe's way or not at all. File importing from camera or card is incredibly slow with too few options. The cataloging system takes the meaning of bloatware to a new high. You cannot open a RAW to edit externally without first creating an unnecessary intermediate (and huge) tif. The print module is out of the arc compared to specialist software (Qimage is what I am used to). I appreciate that I may see these shortcomings because I have only spent 60 days (2 trials, different versions) trying to find my way around it, and there might be some additional options buried somewhere deep inside. But life is too short.  ???

By way of comparison I downloaded the as yet incomplete version of Bibble 5. It's in a different and imho much higher league than LR. At least twice as fast, if not more, and instantly easy to use and understand. I'm going to get a Bibble 4 licence to tide me over, as the upgrade to 5 is free when it is released.

I'm not knocking anyone for using LR, it's very popular and I'm sure that once you have accepted that the Adobe way is the ONLY way, and you've taken a year or so to get to grips with the interface, undoubtedly powerful too. But for me it is considerably less than the sum of its parts. And therefore seriously overpriced (but aside from Elements, what Adobe product isn't?)

I'm sure they won't understand the "dwindling online readership" bit. ;)

Wmmfgt?
After two days of aches and feeling as though my joints are on fire, it looks like I'll be able to go back to work tomorrow. :)

This is more a WMYFGY - as I went with 6 other togs to a studio shoot at Calumet in Manchester and had a good time - it was the DPG 4th birthday meet! So met up with some good friends had a laugh and took some shots of several girls and a guy. Followed up with a very nice Italian and birthday cake!  ;D ;D

Not being an advocate for any particular processing system, as an amateur and for whom speed and bulk handling is not particularly an essential, I find Lightroom has everything I need. I've got all the time in the world to work on a print to get it where I want it, but I can appreciate a professional photographer may need an extra edge in that area, but then again Lightroom seems to have that ability.

I suppose it is expensive if you only shoot perhaps a 1or2 GB's a month and produce perhaps 3 or 4 images worth working on, and then if you equate the cost as a price per print you would turn a ghastly white colour. ::)

The thing I like most about it is the printing process and it's flexibility. I suppose I can be accused of laziness in not sampling other systems but if it works don't fix it.

Pass the Marmite please dear.

What a nice way to end- was she the model you shot then  :)

For me WMFGT - last night really.
OK yes me and my wife were amongst the oldest there in a crowd of kids and young women but went to see Pink in Manchester last night and what a show. Anyone who does no know her stuff apart from the chart stuff she does do some great ballads and a range of almost C&w and some political songs. her show , one of the cheapest I`ve seen at the MEN arena too, was full of great lighting / effects, ballet, classical piano interludes, great dancing, gymnastics , trapeze work and people hanging around on sheets and great musicians - especially lead guitar and keyboards topped with a faultless vocals performance. One of the best show music events I`ve ever been to. If you get the chance check out the tour - well worth it - oh and did I say very sexy in parts too! ;) Brilliant entertainment
