One of the things that stick in my memory and makes the hair on the back of my neck tingle is marching to a military band. One of the abiding and pleasurable things from National Service. As the CPO says, it makes you feel a couple of inches taller.

It's a grind when practising, being shouted at and called all the names under the sun, but on the day, MAGIC!.

I'm sure any old sweats out there would agree.

You have hit the nail on the head there Alan! Even now (after 26 years) when a military band strikes up it takes you straight back to the parade ground -remember stomach in, chest out, shoulders back, head up and drive those heels in to the beat of the bass drum ;D

Don't count the days "Guest," make the days count!.

I have no links with the military, but love military bands.

Couple of things:

Finding THESE pictures from 1962.

And looking at THIS which made me realise that if the resolution I am getting from my much cheaper kit (taken from further up Manhattan on a far less sunny day) is pretty much there with less than half the pixel count, which means I can save up for a holiday and not worry about buying yet more camera stuff  8)

Those pictures from 1962 bring back memories as the world held it's breath.  ???

Hinfrance

Oldboy, you'll find THESE interesting too - also about to post the link in the conflict photography thread (if I can find it)

Been a nice Holiday weekend here. It's usually cold and damp but very summer like this time. Went to our Royal Botanical Gdns. with my son on Sat. Lot's of photos. He's visiting from Ottawa so had Grandma and Grandpa over yesterday for BBQ or Grillin' as they call in in the U.S. Every one had a good time.  ;D
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Glad you had some nice weather. It was dull and cold here but brightened up today, and the rest of the week should be better.  :o

What made me feel good today:

Daughter, who could never muster any interest in my photography, sent me the following email:

"Mary and I have spent quite a long time looking at your photos and
we're very impressed! Went on some website called Flickflu or
something?! I'm not too sure what the point of this email is really"

Thrilled to bits!
