finally got back to some decent food and service that is chavishly rude and well below par.
You can only take so much "high how are?", "have a nice day" and "thanks for visiting my store, how can wee be of service for you today?", and be English with out wanting to be rude just for the hell of it.

I was starting to miss "wha ya won?", "foods cold? wa ya won me ta do?" and cutelry that still had last Sundays roast on it.

Hope you didn't ask for cutlery of any kind, clean or otherwise. Last trip stateside, wife and I stopped in backwater West Virginia at a roadside diner.  When we asked for 'cutlery' we got blanks stares. My wife ordered their 'Asian' salad, turned out to be a plain old green salad with those crispy noodles sprinkled on top. I'm very wary about what I ask for down there but the Mrs. just blithely acts like she's at home and we get the oddest looks.

LMAO! Any backwater place in the states may not be a good place for sensible dining. Sometimes, you can find great food but you'd be afraid to go into the place from the way it looks.  :2funny:

I scored a Nikkor 70-210mm f4-f5.6 AF Macro Zoom lens for $40 at a yard sale yesterday. If you hold the lens directly up or down the barrel sides a bit but it is a small price to pay. AF does not seem to work with my body but manual focus works well. Now I just have to get used to using a lens this way and figure out how to set the lens for macro properly.

The Nikkor 70-210 is a very good lens - I had the D version which I used when my 70-300 was away being repaired. That's the drawback of all the new lower priced Nikons - you can't af with old and often bargain priced lenses. If you're happy with manually focussing then it should be a very good buy! Here's a few I took with mine

We have friends from South Carolina, who've relocated in Charlotte NC. My buddy actually looks for the diveiest places because by his logic, if it' still in business the food must be good. When we visit, him and I go out and visit those places, as neither his Mrs. nor mine would enter them. I have to say he's been right about 80% of the time. ;D

I picked up a used FE with a couple of lens about a year ago, I'm so used to going manual now I actually switch auto off on a couple of my current lenses. The FE worked at the time, but seems to have a seized up film advance lever.  :'(

I saw a kingfisher today, 1st time this year. I had no chance of shooting it before it flew off as my dog scared it away. Also wmmfgt was watching all the birds just gliding around on the breeze without a care in the world it was great just to sit and watch them for a while!

I don't mind manual focusing but would need a lot of practice to be able to take the pics you did with it. Especially, with something moving. My hands are a tad shaky. LOL

2 things I've learned about eating out... If there are hardly ever any cars in the parking lot or you only see the elderly eating there do not go in! Following those 2 rules have spared me a lot of money and heartburn.  LOL However, listening to the locals will usually help to steer you toward the good food. But sometimes, a place might be in business for a long time because of low pricing. Some people will sacrifice quality for price...but not me!  ;D

I just need to practice more shooting manually and with VR off. Eventually, I'll get the hang of it. Stay positive, stay positive.  8)

I know what you mean. Sometimes, you just have to put the camera down and enjoy the scenery.

Armed with a potatoe ricer, I made the perfect mashed spuds. The usual stuff was mixed in, along with a bit of Colemans mustard, and a splash of Tabasco. The spuds went down a treat with the skillet-fried beef sausages.

A domestic goddess am I! Beer tiem now! :D

 WMMFGT?

Just finished three days photographing Derby Folk Festival. Joy of joys, there was not a "Hey Nonny No" to be heard!
Be warned. There may be pics to follow.

What fascinates me are the people who 'friend' you and then never say anything to you.  ???

I am still a little bemused by facebook. Got a business page and a personal page. Never had an enquiry from it for photography but have seen clients sharing / using my images  to start to spread the word. Now know I need to tage more etc but with new settings some people who prefer not to post publicy have disappeared off my radar and others tell me what they are cooking for tea!!! One person in a model shoot I did was even selling prescription drugs half price to get a little income!!!! beggars belief what some will say publicly :o

Managed to get Sigma UK to post me a part for a flash. They were very keen for me to send it to them as they said it was a very delicate job best suited for their Service Department. Took me about 20 minutes to repair with a precision screwdiver from the pound shop and its as good as new  :)
