I have been busy changing my website and would appreciate any comments ( good or bad ) before I connect it to the online store. www.skellum-photo.com  or  www.lancashirepictures.co.uk There is a comments page on the site so only nice comments here please.

Thanks, Dave :legit:

like the black background always looks a tad pro. wonder if mick has any black paint for this site?
the front end slide show-what should happen when you click on the current picture in the viewer?
gallery pics seem to load very quick, could have been me being numpty but could not close pic without clicking on another part of the screen!
quick and easy to navigate all in all a very usable site.

pretty much agree with trickee's comments and  would say that it would be good if the gallery had an option for a slideshow  but apart from that it looks great

Generally I like the site and think that it is very good. Of the two I prefer the look of the Skellum site.

I don't like the wobbling red phone on the index page, I think that it detracts from your images.

The guest book comments does not work with Firefox 3.0.10 that I run on my main PC. As a result you may miss out with a large number of users leaving comments.

9/10  ;)

Hi Dave,

I've had quick look.

They both look very good.

I have a few observations:

Skellum site:

The slide show controls in wedding section are very small - but I suspect that they scale with the window.
The guest book is a bit confusing - when it opens there is that grey panel that you sort of feel you ought to be able to type straight into, but you have to click the 'add a comment' button before you can. I wonder if the grey box could have some text in it to the effect that the 'add a comment' button needs to be clicked?

And don't take this this wrong way, but I think that the self portrait icon on the home page is a bit scary - in a gothic horror film sort of a way.  :D

Lancashire site:

I was sort of expecting that the 'Main Gallery' logo would be a button and take me into a slide show or something equally wonderful.
The page was slow to load in Firefox (looked at it initially in Opera). This might not be an issue as I am more than the maximum theoretical distance that broadband will work from the local node, although somehow it does. So my connection is not exactly lightening.

Overall - very functional and attractive sites - good job.

Had a quick look at the Skellum site and I think the spacing in your navigation bar is a bit off. Oh yeah and "Were we are"?... :D

Thanks for looking. I've tried adjusting the menu bar spacing but that seems to be it. I also changes ( Where are we ) to ( Our Location ) more comments & suggestions welcome, please have a look. :legit:

Looks very nice Dave.  Just a couple of points though,

The splash page.  When you click on the enter site button it opens a new window.  Is that supposed to happen?

The thumbs on the splash page seem to take ages to open for me, and when they do the close button is the same colour as the border, so not easily spotted.   Also are those images supposed to scroll to reveal more images? or are they just a personal selection.

I'll go and browse some more.  ;)

Using IE8 tried with compatibility mode and without.

Looks Good, very professional. I noticed the same thing as mick, when i entered the site it opened in a new window which is not a criticism just different.

A few years ago I started my site under the name skellum-photo which is now known to sports desk editors for the football pics etc but it is not a very discriptive name for Landscape photos or wedding photography so I started another site with a free voucher from my website provider Moonfruit, so www.lancashirepictures.co.uk is just a link to skellum-photo.com.

Skellum ( Afrikaans ) is a name the South African Police used to call us Brits living there in the 70/80s and is also a word used by Robbie Burns in one of his poems.

So perhaps in hindsite, not a good name for a general photographers site which is why I am now known as skellum-photo to the press etc and Lancashire Photography for everything else. Hope that has explained things. Dave :legit:
