And the test was negative - so she has gone to work this afternoon on the late shift rather than the planned night shift that she was due on last night and tonight.

Went shopping and bought some Persil (amongst other things). It's a washing detergent, in case you don't know, and carries the slogan "Dirt Is Good" which seems to me to be counter intuitive on a cleaning product.

Not really if you think about it. If there was no dirt then you wouldn't buy the product so, for them, dirt is good.  :)

Finally went to the gym physio I should have gone to months ago. Been struggling with a torn calf muscle since late August that i rest and then seems to go tight or tear again after a week or two of working ok. After waiting 2 days for the promised GP "ring back within the hour" they referred me to physio but said it could be 8-10 weeks before I hear anything and then it would be physio by phone initially! Decided on a member discounted private session where I go for a swim. Guy stood me up and without asking my history asked if I had had problems with big toe bones.Dr told me I had gout a couple of times I said a few months back - "No, you`ve got fallen arches and arthritis in both big toe joints. Any professional should see that". Have you had problems with achilles heel and knee in the same leg. "Yes tore my achilles a year back but it settled down and no anterior cruciate ligament in my knee". Turns out my achilles is twice as thick as it should be and not stretching thus the calf is tearing everytime I put stress on it. he found 5 different tears in my calf and a couple of bits of healed scar tissue with a very painful sports massage. So it`s light exercise fort 6 weeks, weekly sports massage and two lots of exercises 4 times a day. Now how would an NHS physio find that in a telephone call / assessment? Should have gone there months ago as it`s n too expensive and I get back half of what I pay through a hospital fund scheme I`m in.

It's great when you go to a doctor who knows his subject inside out. Hopefully he will give you the correct treatment and, you will be better than you have been for years.

Yes in this case though it was a physio. He works with Leeds Rhinos and Otley RC and couldn`t believe that I`d been getting physio by phone for another issue!

Glad to hear you've got a treatment plan in place. Good luck.

Firstly, good to hear you are getting sorted out Jinky - easy to be critical of yourself in hindsight!

What has bemused me today (Well sort of today) - Had solar panels and battery storage installed just before Christmas - and its been one of the worst December months for photon capture for at least 10 years (According to a friend of mine who has had his for that time!)

Well by bill was halved last year - so not bemused.

A week or so ago, Sue showed me an article which detailed things that Gen whatever-they-are (I get lost with all these new fangled terms  :) ) can't do and leave to the experts. One of the relatively common items was changing a light bulb...

Well, I just found myself unable to change a light bulb when the nearside headlight and sidelight failed on our car. Naturally, when in that position, the only thing to do was to get a new car...

And although the above paragraph is correct and accurate, like a politician's statement it's completely misleading. The car in question is a Renault Scenic which we bought new back in 2007. The light bulb failure was due to water entering the light, and corroding the connections. Renault no longer supply parts for the vehicle, so it would be a case of scouring scrap yards or ebay for the parts. Given that our garage also reported wear on the bushes (naturally, parts no longer available  >:( ) it seemed a new car was required. Amazingly, we found one on the day that the garage, having tried and failed to find alternatives for all the parts needed, reported that the car had basically reached end of life.

So, new car tomorrow, as I couldn't change a light bulb.

Congrats on the new car Steven, sounds like a good excuse to me.  Mind you, some cars you have to strip most of the front off just to get to the headlight bulb which is ridiculous, it should be something anyone can do on the side of the road.

Agreed about bulbs should be easy to change. I remember being able to change a headlight bulb without even needing a screwdriver- in fact, years ago I used to carry a spare.

Some years back, I recall that to change a bulb in the dashboard on the car we had then required taking the whole front off  - a classic £100 labour, 60p parts...

In France you have to carry a spare set of bulbs - exemption being Xenon bulbs due to the potential for electric shock (I've changed them, its not hard!) - but as said, most cars are a nightmare to change bulbs on - having to remove wing liners and having double joints arms like twigs!

Best car I've owned for changing bulbs was my old Landrover Discovery - headlights had two clips which allowed the complete unit to be removed and the bulbs changed in the comfort of the car or the house!

I'm getting a "new" car soon - I'm retiring (Well semi) and the car on salary sacrifice is going back so a new car is needed - trying to work out what is best to get. My first thought (I want an EV for a few reasons!) is something that just has a few miles range - 100 as I rarely do more than that round trip and cost a couple of grand - but that has morphed as when we go on holiday - usually UK - we drive and need a bit more range. So have gone through a few options, MG5, Peugeot 2008 and now I think I've settled on a Kia Nero. My current car is an Enyaq - so big and I really don't need a car that big anymore - kids have their own car so if they join us, sometimes bring it too.

So as this is the bemused thread, its the difference in cost of the "same" thing.
