Windows 10 Desktop wider than monitor

But not by much...

I'm running Windows 10, have a Viewsonic VA2213W monitor, and an Nvidia GTX750 graphics card. I used to have a two monitor setup, but desksharing with my wife meant that the second monitor had to go. I now have my desk back, but find myself without a suitable monitor cable to attach the second monitor - but that's another problem.

When it was running as a two monitor system, the Viewsonic was the left hand side and the Acer (K202HQL) was on the right.

Now, so far as I can ascertain, the mouse pointer stops at the left, top and bottom of the screen, but disappears off to the right when moved. I estimate about half the width of the small icons I use on my desktop off screen.

I've failed to find any settings - either on the monitor hardware adjustments, the graphics card or Windows itself that can fix this.

I can live with it (and expect it to vanish - actually, read hope it does) when the second display comes back) but anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Not one I've heard of. But I seem to recall there is a hidden menu that gives access to some power features and I have a vague memory that something might be in that.

Helpful I know 🤣

I use windows>system>display>rearrange your displays, click detect, drag and drop the displays to the desired configuration. When I've changed or added displays in the past this has fixed the errant mouse problems.

You've probably already done this, so sorry for teaching grandma etc.

I hadn't tried the windows->system etc. method. I just did, and there was indeed an effect. I didn't expect it to allow me to drag display 1 to the other side of display 2, since it told me I had only one monitor attached. The effect: the cursor then disappeared off both edges not just one!

Thanks for the help anyway - appreciated from you both. I think I just live with it until I can find a monitor cable that will work. My graphics card is a GTX750, which apparently has DVI-I, DVI-D and mini HDMI connections. From trial, I know that a DVI cable that fits one DVI socket won't fit the other. The monitor requires VGA. I have one cable that fits at both ends, one that won't fit the monitor. I have two different VGA to DVI adaptors, neither of which have a DVI end that will fit the graphics card; and I haven't yet found anyone selling a cable with a known correct DVI end and correct gender VGA. This may mean a new monitor...

I only wish I could find the cable that worked, because I must still have it, and had both monitors attached.

Update

I managed to get a cable from Amazon which fitted both card and monitor, and amazingly gives me two monitors and an extended desktop in Win10. AND THE CURSOR DOESN'T DISAPPEAR when I move it to the right - it immediately appears on the second monitor.

I now just need to set up VirtualBox to recognise two monitors to get Win7 working the same way.

Well done for sorting out your problem. It's good when you can fix it.
