But I believe that every time something that's just "wrong" gets called a "breach of human rights" it cheapens the notion of human rights.  For example, yes murdering somebody is a breach of their human right to life.  But it's also murder so we don't need to invoke the Human Rights Bill to take action.  Let's save those rights for the battles we need them for.

I can't fault your reasoning here Jonathan although some would say that the right to life is a God given right. The article itself refers to the 'Stop and Search Powers under Section 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000' and to what the European Court deemed were injustices under that act as appertaining to human rights. It has to be assumed that those persons bringing the case before the European Court had attempted to resolve the issue in the courts of the United Kingdom and indeed this may also be a pre-requisite. Having it seems failed in this endeavour, and I suppose this could reasonably have been expected, then they were left with no option but to appeal before the European Court of Human Rights. From outside looking in, it seems a great pity that the country that most would say gave birth to the principles of democracy now finds itself in a position where on more than one occasion it's residents feel the need to fight for their basic rights outside of their country of residence/birth. I for one can't come up with a satisfactory explanation as to how or why this situation has come about. Is it apathy by the people at large in general or, is it just giving in to what they consider to be the inevitable. In this regard one has to admire the French, in so much as if there is anything that they don't particularly like it's out into the streets - democracy for the people by the people. Yes ok, it gets a bit extreme at times but the underlying reasoning is sound - if you live in a democratic country then fight for it, and where you have basic human rights then these should be treasured, preserved and above all guarded. To this end imo I am glad that the European Court of Human Rights exists for were it not to be it wouldn't be too long before the term Human Rights would have to be looked up in the lexicon.

I'm with Forseti on this one.

And we only had rain, so all the snow and ice has finally gone.

ABERS

Finally finished preparing some 20 prints, cutting mattes and mounting them. Been at it for the last three days in small chunks.

With advancing years I find mounting more and more exhausting, with no suitable work surface to do it on I'm afraid I have to resort to the dining room carpet, and it plays havoc with my knees. ;) ::) It never used to.:legit:

Picked up my new lens this afternoon! ;D Drove to the Harbour to check it out. Weather was overcast and damp cold so I didn't stay long. Hopefully it'll be nicer tomorrow.

Ah, we have a saying here O.B., "it's not the cold, it's the damp". I used to work with a fella who spent time in Northern Alberta where it can hit -40 celcius. He said he take that over an Ontario -2 celcius because it's a dry cold and doesn't 'burn' the skin the same. Of course it doesn't help that I'm a wimp. Despite having lived 53 of my 56 yrs. in this climate I can't stand winter. I posted two of my pics, you can see how cloudy it was. I might have stayed out longer if it'd been sunny.
