The condensing pipe from my boiler also froze recently. I have a contract with British gas whereby I pay a flat fee of £99. in advance for any repair. The engineer arrived, hacksaw already in hand and explained that he knew what the problem was. He sawed through the pipe where it comes out of the wall, told me to get it repaired when the warm weather comes, and was off to the next job. He told me that he was averaging 50 similar jobs per day! From coming in the door to leaving, less than 3 minutes.  :-\

My condensing pipe froze overnight Wednesday/Thursday too - for the first time ever. Woke up early, could see my breath. Guessed what the problem was (having heard of so many other folk suffering it) and decided to stay in bed till normal rising time. Then got up, disconnected the pipe at the wall and restarted the heating. By bedtime the temperature in the lounge had only got back up to 17 degrees....

The oven gave up the ghost tonight (I think its the heating element that has gone ) so Rose has to trawl around Croydon ( I am working in Hayling Island tomorrow) to get an element or we have to buy a new oven  :o and yes we have people coming round, luckily not xmas day but boxing day.

This site is run by a friend of mine. They can help you determine what needs to be fixed. :)

Just tell them you make and model number and exactly what is not working properly.

What a handy site to know  bookmarked for future reference

Everton's match being called off...boxing day without a game doesn't bear thinking about :'(
Who wanted dry roasted with their pint?

Well we were sitting minding our own business eating some chips i had just cooked in the oven, when there was a gunshot sound from the kitchen.
Being the slightly braver out of the two of us i proceeded into the kitchen to find glass everywhere the oven door had shattered into a million little pieces. Well at least it did not happen on Christmas day. Zanussi the appliance of science. :'(

Sorry to hear about the oven. Glad know one was in the room when it happened though.

yes it would have been a shock for anyone standing next to it. Cannot believe how glass can spread and shatter everywhere still finding it now.
Its about £65 for a new piece of outer glass so dinners are off the menu until we get a replacement.  >:(

Called the local Appliance Parts store today. They found my stove model in their inventory computer and eventually the parts man found the part number for the oven ignitor but that's as far as the computer will go. To paraphrase Just Dave 'clicky NO linky'. He couldn't tell me if they had it in stock or not. Have the oven half apart now. He said if I bring the old part in he can get a match. May take a day but... :(

Hope people get their appliances sorted out soon. We nearly had a disaster when my wife notiuced smell of gas from the cooker the day before Christmas eve. Calls for repairmen left us with instructions to ring Transco and tell them when we were disconnected but no service avaiulable until after Christmas. Transco came within an hour and found that there was a slight leak on the incoming pipe which he could tighten up - happnes to the plastic washers after a few years evidently. Saved.

Anyway what annoyed me! Looking at photos of a big works event my daughter organised down in Guildford for her firm. Of course I told them I`d cover the event and beat any quotes - even offering to do it if they covered my expenses for a couple of days down there. My daughter was not keen as she did not want me cramping her style or embarrassing her  ::) - despite assurances that I`d play the professional photographer. The original date was cancelled due to snow and the photographer could not do the following week himself but said he would send a stand in. The stand in turned up at 5.30am for a 7pm starting event and at 8.30 said he was going as he had only been booked for 3 hours They persuaded him to stay on but having looked through the 3 CDs of images I don`t know why he bothered. Shooting with a Canon 5d with on camera flash the ones he has managed to get in focus are ruined with  harsh shadows, lkack of real colour and contrast and appalling composition. In her place I`d be taking action in small claims court as I am sure no judge would accept them as a professional piece of work - my youngest would have done better with a compact they are so bad. Of course she is taking it personally and has learned lessons about contracts, checking people out and maybe listening to me next time but I cannot believe there are people out there purporting to offer professional services who can have the gall to present their stuff on three cds in paper wallets and take money for it. I`ve said I`ll happily take it up for them but she just wants to forget it.

I detect a theme here.  :(

WAMT? Son was down from Ottawa for the Holiday, got a 3rd of the way home and realized he'd left his wallet behind. I agreed to go meet him halfway. Went to drive my truck and discovered the battery had died. Got it running again late last night. Fingers crossed it starts in the morning.  :'( They say things come in threes, I have to get my wife's car tested for emission compliance today in order for her to get her plate renewal. Dreading it.

Sure enough, had to get repairs done to wifey's car  before they'd pass it.  :( On the up side my truck kept the charge overnight so that's one less headache.

Chopped up a fresh Jalapeno pepper for a garnish. Rub my nose whilst doing it. Say no more.  :'( :'(
