Why did you upgrade your Camera Body?

Fuji Finepix S5000 to a 400D because I wanted more control and use lenses like my dad could on his 20D now 5D because he wanted a full frame and get more in with better dof etc...

Now i can go to a 5D Mark II or a D700 with the uni loan shop, Uni ain't all that bad these days!

I'm thinking of the 100mm 2.8L macro for my next lens, fancied a proper macro lens for quite a while. The 7D has some fancy function that only works with canon usm macro lenses in AI servo mode, supposed to be a great help when not doing static tripod stuff, like flowers in slight wind and insects not pinned or glued down lol

First decent (   ) digi camera was a kodak dx4530. 5mp and  at a good price. Shutter lag was a problem though. Then had a 400D for a about two years before selling it to a fellow driver. Had acquired a 40D when they did their second cash back offer and got it mostly for the frame rate and tougher body. I bought a second hand 1D mkll last year for my cricket photos. the frame rate helped again but the loss of 0.3 on the sensor is a bit of a hinderance. I've kept the 40D because I like it so much. Like you orGie, I was pondering between the 7D and the 5Dmkii, but chose an apple imac instead. The way technology moves on, it doesn't really matter what you upgrade to, as whatever you buy will always be superceded by something else a little later on. So until they bring out a ff 10fps hd camera for less than two grand, we'll keep spending when it really isn't necessary. (but it's fun)

My first digital camera was the Fuji A204 without zoom and then brought one with a 3x zoom. Then brought a Minolta RD3000 with lens for £800 plus. Added another two lenses but as it had a 46mm mount, none of the other Minolta lenses would work with this camera. When Nikon launched the D70 got that with the kit lens. Added a few other lenses including the 60mm F2.8 macro, Nikon 70-300mm, Sigma 18-200mm, Sigma 70-300mm, Nikon 24-120mm F4 VR, and the Nikon 300mm F4. As the D70 wasn't weather sealed brought the D200 on launch. Great camera which produced cracking shot in good light but was hopeless in low light. Added a few other lenses including the Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4, Nikon 12-24mm F4, Nikon 80-400mm F4-5.6, Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 VR, Nikon 2x converter and Sigma 50-500mm F4-6.3. Brought the Nikon D3 on launch and added Nikon 400mm F2.8, Nikon 14-24mm F2.8, Tokin 28-70mm F2.8 Pro, Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 and Nikon 1.4 converter. I might have missed a few lenses off that list.

All fun aside OB, it must be great to have such a vast kit and know you have the right lens for any occasion. Once I get finances sorted then I may manage to progress forward with some more glass. But untill then getting back on track to the original post...Why did you upgrade your camera body.
THe A700 I upgraded to is far better than the older A100. A good camera but a vast amount more control with shutter speeds ISO and many little setting the A100 didn't have. Have my photo's improved after spending the money to upgrade...Well thats another issue, I would like to think so. I have been using the A700 on manual setting much more than the old body. So I must be going in the right direction somewhere..WEll hopefully

I thought I answered that! Upgraded from the Minolta as it only had four lenses and I could only get three. The D70 didn't have weather sealing and the D200 couldn't handle low light. As most of my photography is nature and wildlife I need to have a camera for all situations.  

I still have the Minolta and D70 but haven't used for a few years. Mostly use the D3 but sometimes the D200, as it will fit in a small shoulder bag with a couple of small lenses. Just remember didn't list the Nikon 105mm F2.8 VR macro or the 50mm F1.4.

I upgraded from a Pentax K10d to a Pentax K7. The main reasons were a larger screen on the back and a lighter body. I have since found that the K7 is much easier to use for example on the K10 I had to press a couple of buttons when I wanted to use a tripod and a remote control whereas on the K7 I just press one much easier less chance to forget things.

Why did I move from a Minolta Dimage 5 to a Canon 350D? Simply because the focussing on the Dimage 5 was unreliable; the battery life in Dimage 5 cameras could be tolerated... to a point. The digital noise was workable, just.

Why am I considering going for a digital rangefinder (Epson R-1Ds, fwiw)? Because I'm beginning to dislike the closed-in feeling that's a part of using a (D)SLR.

I actually returned my first Dimage 5 because I thought it has a focussing fault!

Oh, memories.......,
I actually liked my Dimage 5, it is a bit like a classic car. Full of faults, and with its own quirkiness. Still have some images in the Database and it could come up with remarkable good results.(On a good day, downhill, downwind, plenty of light etc.)
