Thanks guys!

The Dell monitors seem to be about the price we thought we'd have to pay.

With the Samsung there are quite a few different models http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?__mk_de_DE=%C5M%C5Z%D5%D1&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Samsung+SyncMaster&x=13&y=17
Any preference Oldboy?

I have the 22in 20000:1 2ms, but suggest the 24in might be best like this one: http://www.amazon.de/Samsung-Syncmaster-Widescreen-TFT-Monitor-Kontrast/dp/B002SNAM1Y/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1287235247&sr=8-9

In the German Amazon there is a comment that the monitor is quite loud, has a kind of humming noise. Have you any experience with that, Oldboy? Also that it's difficult to get it to the right angle.

Well the English Amazon differs. http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B002SNAM1Y/ref=cm_cr_dp_hist_5?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addFiveStar

Read the reviews.

If you have a local store/shop that stocks them, then check for yourself. I've had two Samsung monitors and been pleased with both.

Interesting that the reviews should differ.
But you're right, Oldboy. I'll go along to our "Media Markt" and see if they have it in stock.

It seems most people use it as a TV, which isn't my intention.

Thanks for the advice!

I was told Contrast ratio is important. Both my monitors are 1000.1  I first bought a LG monitor which was 50,000.1 which I took back straight away... :legit:

Almost like some of the "reviewers" on Amazon don't know what they are talking about.....

Seriously, it's a real problem with crowdsourcing opinions.  You need to be confident in the crowd.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster T220 - I've had it for nearly 2 years (Or is it three?) and its really good - Nice rich blacks and good colour etc.

You may find this web site of interest in establishing how good a monitor is http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/conclusion.php

how about going to a shop and let's see, pick the one you like the best?

I certainly have to go to a shop and see the sizes at least :)
I don't expect to get much in the way of advice though.

I've been reading so many test reports I'm getting square eyes.
