I see this section is still empty so thought I would create a post with my equipment list. I picked up a Pentax K10D a few months back after having used a Pentax *ist DL for some time. I still have the *ist as a backup along with the kit lens, Pentax FA 50-200, and a Pentax 70-300. All that stays in the backup bag.
I got a Quantaray 70-300 lens when I bought the K10D for free and intended to sell it since I already had a 70-300 Pentax lens but after using it some like it well enough to keep it. A month or so ago I bought the new Pentax DA* 50-135 f2.8 lens and love it. I shoot a lot of events at the school where I teach and it is a great lens for events in the gym or auditorium when I need to shoot without a flash.
I just bought the battery grip for the K10 which does help balance the camera when using the DA* lens. I also got a Sigma 18-50 f2.8 Macro lens to replace the kit lens and a Pentax FA 50mm f1.4 prime. I'll have to upload some pics from a recent trip to a zoo that turned out well and plan to take a trip to a local arboretum soon to play with the new lenses.
Welcome to CC, Rick.
Nice to see a pentax owner - too many canikon's around
The istDL was a very good, easy to use compact dslr - we've just got rid of ours for a Sony A200 (I'm an a-mounter, and my partner wants to use my lenses), but we've some good shots from the Pentax. I loved the handling too.
Well that's interesting about the Pentax's - a very good friend of mine wants to buy her first dslr, and being a Nikonite I recommended the D40 or D60 (within budget, especially the D40) Wanted something not too bulky and heavy.
Having read your comments on the Pentax, I'd recommend her to look there as well.
My gear?
Nikon D200 with 18-70 lens
Nikon 70-300 ED lens
D70 back up (18-70 lens came with this cam originally)
Nikon SB600 flash
Metz digital flash 76 MZ-5 :D(soo nice to have a Metz back in the armoury - the SB600 rarely gets a look-in now)
Would like the battery grip for the D200, (MB-D200), but the price is extortionate!! Could get a non-nikon version from e-bay, but haven't heard if the gear is reliable or not. Even the Nikon originals from Hong Kong or China are pretty pricey, even though they are sold with one or two batteries. Jessops - £140 for the MB-D200 - way too high!! >:(
The A200 may be a better bet there though, because the price is astounding for new kit, and in specs, more than matches (even betters in AF performance) the D60.
Yeah, the ist DL worked well for me. I had a Pentax ME film camera years ago and thought I still had a couple of lenses in storage. When a local chain store ran them on sale for $520 (and there was a $100 rebate offer) the price became too good to pass up. The only problem I ever had with it was that sometimes it showed that the battery was low even when I put in new batteries. Never happened if I used rechargables, though.
I did upload some shots I took at the zoo to the gallery. All were taken with the K10D and with either the DA* 50-135 lens or the Quantaray 70-300 lens.

Hi Rick,
Yep noticed your pics, but wondered why they weren't showing on the latest uploads page of the front page and forums. Just noticed you have password protected your album, and set it to "album can be viewed by (Album Owner (GvilleRick) Only".
No one apart from me can see them. ;)
Been a while since I uploaded in Coppermine. I've modified the album so it should be visible now. :)
Thanks, it's fine now. Nice pics, and now everyone can see them.

Ooo is this a free for all boasting session? :D
I have a little old D70 with far more frames on the clock than the manufacturer would recommend. And a busted Siggy 18 - 50.
I think that's pretty much it.
Oh I have some old primes that I play with now and again. Maybe a zoom or two that isn't broken. 8)

if you need any help to make the most of your kit, let me know ;D
Think you've been tumbled, Jonathan..... ;) ;D
I can post here without it being off topic. I know no-one has been here for ages, but there you go.
Pentax K20D (took me a while too save up for that, but worth it, I think)
PentaxK10D
Siggy 10-20
Pentax 18-55 II
Tamron 28-300
Anyroadup, a friend of mine was just hovering between a D60 and the K200D, and in the end plumped for the Pentax because it felt more solid and is weathersealed (his first trip with it will be to Sri Lanka).
Now all I need is flashgun, some decent lenses, a studio lighting kit, a decent tripod, a lottery win for CS . . and just everything. ::)
Didn't see this thread....as you re-ignited it Tringle I shall join you.....

I inherited the 10D body and flash off my father in law when he upgraded to a 40D about 18 months ago. Prior to this I had been using a Kodak bridge camera but had been wanting to get into more serious photography. This gave me the opportunity to do so without having to spend a huge amount.
The problem now is that I have a serious photography bug and find myself browsing websites for new lenses & kit on a regular basis but am thinking of upgrading to a 50D.......if I can perseude my wife :-*

looking to upgrade 30D to another 5D MkII and get the 100-400L - but wife wants holiday, new furniture, clothes, possibly a healthy extension to her redundant and not keen to go back to work status.
Could get ugly in our house ;D
All we need now is that guy form the UEA who has almost everything Canon are producing...
Oh yeah and for Jonathan to come clean...
I love my K10D, the way it handles and has all the options I need (not being interested in scene modes or video), with the kit 15-55 lens and the 50-200. The pop-up flash is sometimes handy, but a more powerful one is on my wish list.
However, I still like my 2003 vintage Canon Ixus 400 too, for easy carrying everywhere, and parties where the SLR might be too obtrusive. It's "only" 4Megapixels, but I can use a 100% sized crop of part of the image for web publication with no visible noise - something my wife's Fuji Z5D is not capable of even in bright light.
Here's my kit, might be dangerous if I were any good! :-\

Sony 50 f1.8

I'll spare you the list of the darkroom equipment I've used, (or tried to, at least). ;)
Ooh, I see you have a Minolta Autocord!
I've just sent a film off to be dev & scanned. I think mine's a little older than your's :P. The focus lever seems fine to me. It came with a hood, polarising filter, instruction book and one of those "Neverready" cases (Which needs re-stitching.).
I paid £50.00, ok tell me I was robbed! >:(. I think it was worth it just to put on the shelf and look at.
If the film comes out ok I'll be picking your brains about light meters. ( you've been warned!)
Graham. :)

Yup. My first TLR, and I bought it in the Bolton camera club annual auction night. I think I paid £35 for it, and had to out-bid the club president who's a collector of TLR cameras.

The other problem the Autocords suffered was that the focussing lever was made from a soft metal, and was prone to snapping off... beware of this, eBay buyers!
One thing about the Autocords though, rumour has it that Minolta used a Rolliecord as the design template, and improved the design for the Autocord. The biggest improvement was that the film fed from top to bottom, so as to stop the common problem of mid-frame film kink that some (most?) Rolliecords had.
You can get a rough age of the camera by visiting http://www.wctatel.com/web/crye/a-cord.htm (http://www.wctatel.com/web/crye/a-cord.htm).

I paid £50.00, ok tell me I was robbed! >:(. I think it was worth it just to put on the shelf and look at.
If the film comes out ok I'll be picking your brains about light meters. ( you've been warned!)
Graham. :)
No problem. :)
Thanks for that Dave.

Welding glass? A sort of makeshift ND filter?
That`s the fella! There was a group of us that bought a very dark welding mask glass, they`re roughly the same size as a cokin filter. Bought as a novelty item really, they give a very strong colur cast to the shot but give some interesting long exposures.
Cheaper than a 10stop B&W!!

Lubitel 166 TLR (Anyone know how to work such a thing?)
Yup. ;)
The prongs and stuff scattered around the taking lens is possibly the most intimidating thing you'll see. Have a read of the manual found here (http://www.butkus.org/chinon/russian/lubitel-166b/lubitel-166b.htm) for the "166B", or here (http://www.butkus.org/chinon/russian/lubitel_universal_166/lubitel_universal_166.htm) for a PDF for the "166 Universal".
Trust me... looking at a manual is much easier for this camera, than having someone telling you via text. :)

Found an old Kodak Instamatic in the drawer over the weekend. Has film in it too. Local photo printer says they don't have the equipment to process the cartridges anymore. :'( Oh well I'm thinking of buy a couple of display boxes and mounting the camera as "memorabilia". That one and my KM D5 that I cooked the sensor on. :'(
Other people know more about this than me......but if it's a 126 Instamatic you may be in luck.
IIRC it's similar to 35mm enough that you can IN THE DARK (like a changing bag) smash open the cartridge, wind it right onto the spool and put it in a film pot. Then tell the lab to drop it in C41.
But there's a chance I'm wrong on that. Or that it's a 110 Instamatic.
Cleared out the garage yesterday and found my first real film camera. A Rank Aldis. It has a fixed lens but you can screw in filters on the front. Used to be my fathers and I've had it for 35yrs at least.
My Kit
Kodak CX330 3.1mp compact (my first digital camera) and love it, used it do a wedding shoot with {don't freak Jonathan ;)} and got a very very decent 10x8 out of it that I converted to B&W then sepia toned and that went in the front of the B&G album as well as the other 30-40shots I printed gave them a disk as well with all the shots on though)
Sony A350
Sony 18-70 3.5-5.6
Sony 70-200 4 - 5.6
Sandisk Extreme III 4gb CF card
Hama Tripod (Birthday pressie from the wife)
Manfrotto Monopod (free when I subscribed to DC Mag)
Centon Bag
Elements 5
and now just got a "White Balancer" from this weeks AP, am still waiting as well for a reflector which was free when I subscribed to Photography Monthly....might have to look into where I stand on that as technically I am sure they are in breach of contract...different issue though
On the wish list- more memory, another battery (or 2), a flash gun, battery grip, cable remote, wireless remote, a rucksack type bag, a circ pol (may be an issue though as the focusing ring on the Sony's is on the front of the lens) and an upgrade to Elements 7 (as CS4 is waaaaaay out of my price range) and if there's any left over maybe some Cokin/Lee type filters and if I really had money the 70-400 f2.8 (£1229.00 at the moment)

Now, will OldBoy need a separate thread for this one? ;D
