Ok, so its not a DSLR - but there is no place for mirrorless - and given the lack of traffic and posts on here at the moment, little point in adding a section!

I bought one back in March - partly because I needed to replace my 24-105 which after about 10years was showing signs of wear and softness - the cheap option would probably have been to get it serviced.............

Anyway. I did also want a bit more resolution and had heard good things about the latest autofocus. I did also look at the R3 - but apart from the AF didn't offer enough over my 1Dx Mk3 to justify it and didn't have the resolution I was craving.

I was also looking for something a bit lighter and would be compatible with my old EF lenses.

The good.

AF is incredible. Truly amazing - a massive number of AF points - and there is a mode to prioritise detection either people, animals or motorsports. And that is brilliant - tracks peoples eyeball if if can see it - same for animals - tracks birds in flight like a limpet and cars - if it can see helmets it tracks them first, then the car itself (Not proven the former but car tracking is really good!)

Resolution. Huge. Often have 60Mb raw files. Love it.

It is quite light (in comparison). Feels good and fits nicely in the hand.

EVF is bright and fast - and not at all like previous ones. viewfinder can show a level, the histogram and the exposure information.
You can get a preview of the image you have just taken. chimping without it being obvious!
Rear screen is excellent - most things can be adjusted when looking through the viewfinder - but the odd thing has to be done through the rear screen.

The not so good.

The EVF is good as said, but you have to turn it on - not a deal breaker but odd!
Battery life. Its appalling - 200-300 shots to a charge - I now have 4 batteries.

Some example shots.

And cropped

Af still got the eyes despite the hands!
