Chat, WHAT'S ON THE MENU?
This week I would like you all to take a photograph that would look good on a restaurant (or cafe) menu. Anything from your local greasy spoon to a mitchelin star restaurant . This could be an actual food photograph (a starter, soup, main, dessert, hor's deuvres, drinks etc) or a picture that might look good on the front of the menu (to represent the restaurant/cafe itself) i.e. a sea view for a fish restaurant, a counrty kitchen for a local, smaller cafe etc.
No PP restrictions.
Pictures to be taken between 00.01am Monday 27th August 2012 to 23:59 Sunday 2 September 2012 .
Pictures to be posted in the entries thread no later than 23.59pm Monday 3 September 2012.

You`re trying to make me enter two weeks running aren`t you. ;)
I start a diet Monday so it`s your fault if I end up cooking soenthing OTT for the pic. :)
au contrere or however you spell it.....Soups, salads, baked potatoes...all low fat and can make yummy photos too!!!! Imagine the butter (well low fat spread..lol) as it melts and runs down th skin, glazing it as it goes..... Or a delicious, plump salad with a lovely, glistening oil and vinegar dressing. The colours and the textures.....So, no excuse....lol Im dieting too. You been watching the programme ' The Hairy Dieters'?

It's not
compulsary to eat the props! You could break with tradition for once.
Or make a fruit salad from your Jinky Fruty XP 100.
(DD it's au contraire, if I remember my French from way back when.)
NOT ESSENTIAL!!! I hate waste. No not been watching HB`s - I`m just a fat ba**%**!
They made low fat pies using pizza base mix rather than pastry. 300 cals rather than 800 in a regular mince pie. I tried them last night and they were gorgeous. Im currently cooking their spicy chicken. A whole chicken, skin removed and cut underneath to split it and flatten it, then marinaded in low fat yoghurt mixed with spices and roasted. Once done, its browned under a grill. Smells delicious.
As there are many things that need my attention at the moment, and also to prevent people trying out high calorie dishes, just to take a photograph, I kept it simple. Very simple and very non fattening.
So here's my non threatening-non fattening menu cover for Ristorante Italiano:
The Italian Job.

I'm waiting to see what jinky comes up with.
I've got my concept, and will try to get the job done tomorrow if I can :)

I cannot compete with Jinky, so I kept it simple and non seductive.
Don`t wait for me - it will be a lst minute effort if I get time. I did try one in a cafe at lunch time but failed miserably.
Probably had the camera on 1/250 second but ate the cake before the shutter had fired :2funny:

I`ll have you know it was a healthy lunch and totally cakeless! - (Did have chips on the side thought that came with it and I did not order - but had to eat. Still posh place s there were only 5!
Glad you are eating well Paul - posh restaurants at lunchtime indeed . . how the other half lives, eh?
OK, here's mine, the sort of thing that I have on my bread/toast for lunch/breakfast. Om to the nom 8)

Well Howard, Im guessing you do, then (love it, as do I). Who hates it? (Marmite, that is......lol)
OK, I have an entry. Absolutely nothing like the mouth watering image I was gonna put in of my Eton Mess.....

Im blown away by the entries so far.....well done everyone.
The message is clear - poppadown to Jinky`s Tikkaway Restaurant and while you`re at it - why not take your Nan if you`ve got the bread. :legit:

I think that you were really a headline writer for the Sun before you retired ;)
This was a fun theme and Im so pleased with you joining in. Love the entries.
Help. Can anyone tell me when the poll has to be done by and can anyone do it for me?
Has to go up tomorrow morning (Tuesday). I`m out very early and not back until teatime. If it`s not been done by someone by tomorrow night I`m happy to oblige but it is not too tricky really. Just hit the poll button, copy and paste the picture codes etc.
It is usually done on the Tuesday Chris, which allows time for late entries on the Monday. Busy day for me tomorrow and not sure if I will have the computer near to hand until such time arrives, as I am struggling with a numb right arm at present :knuppel2: which is slowing me down somewhat, 1 finger typing with my left >:(.
As Paul said it is quite straight forward to do - entering 'open square bracket br close square bracket'
and then the image address into each box - the square {br} bit helps with the page layout by adding a return/line space.
First topic on the 'competition forum' has instructions on how to set up a poll.
Just have a go. I manged it the second time round!
I'm out tomorrow, so cannot be of any help.
Good luck.
Quick message before I head for train. Doing different job this week (training) with an hour 20 commute each way. No 'normal' PC access until I return home. It was the timescales I was worried about not the know how. Will sort it after 6PM this evening, best I can do. Sorry guys.
I have tried to do the poll....can't get it to work. Can someone please do it for me? If not, I dunno what to do. Im sorry, hope its not a problem.
Have tried and tried and tried.....im frustrated, angry and upset..Its probably easy as pie but Im tired, had a hard day and at the end of my tether. Means no votes after all your hard work and Im so sorry. Maybe I need to bow out of the comps as I can't do the blo*dy poll.
First chance I`ve had to look in. Will do it now assuming all the pics are in the comp entry folder.
Jinky, don't know how to thank you.
That`s OK. Just came on to do some editing I need to do on a job so rush job but all done. ;)
Thanks for stepping into the breach Paul.
Chris, sorry that you found it such a trial, I'll revisit the instruction page and see if I can improve it.

That was my first experience too. I later managed somehow.
I first typed all the titles and the codes in a Word document, then hit the poll button and copied and pasted the stuff.
Howard only had to correct one little thingy, a 'lost bracket' or something.
I couldn't do it 'directly' if you know what I mean.
There's probably an easier way, but I haven't found it (yet).
I usually copy [ br ][ img ]*[ /img ][ br ][ br ] typed into the first box without any spaces and paste it in for each entry.
Then right click the images in the Entry thread to select and copy image address from the properties box.
To return to the Poll, type in the image's title and paste in the image address at * (and then delete the *)
Select options for number of votes etc., and walla tis done
Typical line would look something like this but without the spaces

Do you think all this confusing jiggery pokerry may be a reason people don't enter, just in case they win? ;)

Hello there Abers...Any particular reason for the personal greeting and for my name being in speech marks? Just curious as its not the norm for me.
Footnote - sorry, didn't realise that was just your sig Abers, apologies. Was wondering why you greeted me so personally lol
He`s just got one of those "personalised " signatures - mine says "jinky" when I look.
Re: poll I don`t do any of that typing into the boxes. As long as the entries are in the comp album and on show I just open a poll thread and in another window open each entry in turn by viewing it in the gallery and right clicking and copying the bb code full size text at the bottom and then paste this adding the title before doing the rest and posting. Only thing I find odd is that when I hit preview doing it this way I cannot see the spacing of the images and text just the words pasted - hence why it looked less than neat on my rushed effort that H kindly amended.
With so few entries it really is a 5 minute job doing that way with a couple of windows open.
Hi Jinky - I was going to say very much the same.
Speaking from very limited experience having only had the (mis)fortune to win a very few times, I've found:
Setting up all the code first by copy-pasting into Word or even Notepad is a bit long-winded but can be handy if you get something wrong and want to make a change. However, I find I can open two tabs in Firefox (or IE etc) with one showing the entry thread and the other the new poll, then copy-pasting from one tab to the other is easy. As you say, usually only a five or ten minute job to set up a new Poll.
Stupid question of the day...how do I open a poll thread? Can see (in entries thread) how to launch a poll. I tried that but it didn't start a poll thread. Started to do a new thread, but couldn't find the poll button to click on. Hence my frustrations.
To start a poll, go to forums and click 'New Poll'
(http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10146/normal_new_poll.jpg) (http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=12444&fullsize=1)
Are we getting back to the 'why don't we just add a poll to the entries thread?' debate again?
The only thing about doing it that way is that the poll choices won't appear on the home page. Personally I can live with that if the poll/entries thread is made a sticky for the week. It's certainly a far simpler way of going about setting up the voting, even though it is pretty quick to set up the poll the current way once you have managed to get your head around it.
Please don't change things just cos I had a problem...Im doing some serious training at work, that's puddling my brain, and anything extra to think about is just too much for me at the minute.
Congratulations to the winners - and thank you to those who voted on my shot.
Looking forward to your choice in topic Reinardina
Being first among equals, it falls to me to set the next task. I'll do so in a jiffy, but first congratulations to H and Andy as fellow equals, and thanks to those who voted for my basil.
Well done all the equals and to Reinardina - first among equals. ;)
Well done Re !
Well done Reinardina for posting first and the others who made it so close.
