Network and router issues

Driving me nuts
Loss of internet
At least once a day having to reset my router or do lots of diagnostic checks on this laptop.
Wired pc's x 2 are fine as are iphones and tablets
Convinced its a W10 update at some point.
Visited lots of forums and tried all the suggestions on them and just as you think you have cracked the issue it happens again.
Have uninstalled drivers for the card etc etc.
On one forum they suggest buying another wifi card and this will solve it.
Bugger that.
Getting pished off completely.
Was wondering about rolling back to W8.1.
Has anyone done this without issue. ?

If it is the wifi card driver then the fix should be pretty easy. Just tell W10 not to update the driver. I suspect that is what is happening. Have a look at this How to Geek article

One of my friends had a similar issue with their Realtek ethernet driver - wifi worked perfectly on all the portable stuff, but the ancient PC that was hard wired to the router couldn't install the latest driver, hence repeated crashes.

Of course, if it's not the driver then I haven't got the faintest . .

Looking at my driver again it looks like it aint been updated since March 2015 so I guess its not that, unless w10 updates make it now old and incompatible. However I would then expect to have issues connecting 24/7 instead of every 6-8 hrs

Well, if it's not that then it's probably nothing to do with W10. More likely hardware. My wife's laptop did exactly what you are describing before it was upgraded to W10, and now it works perfectly . .  Computers, eh?

Any chance that it's a power saving issue and the hardware is turned off to save the battery?

I have similar issues with a desktop that now sits downstairs with a wireless network card that only connects for an hour or so after disabling/reenabling the connection, and a laptop in the same room that can happily see and connect to the wired computers up here but can't be seen by them! All mine are Win7...

I did think the same thing Stephen and somewhere in the card settings under the power  management tab there is a tick box for "allow the computer to turn off this device".

My network losses are not consistent.  I used to get error messages about missing protocols. I (think) I have corrected this as the error no longer appears.
I also installed a programme called inSSIDer.  This scans the networks in and around the building and suggests what channel to set your router/hub and what other devices are around which could interfere with the signal.

At time of typing this I have been on line 14hrs, so just waiting for the next drop off. :-\
