For this week's competition, I'd like to see a portrait of an old(er) person, with a lined face. No glamorous grannies please. I'd like to see true grit, accentuated wrinkles, rather than smoothed out ones. PP allowed.

Pictures to be taken between 00.01am Monday 21st of May 2012 to 23:59 Sunday 27th May 2012 .
Pictures to be posted in the entries thread no later than 23.59pm Monday 28th May 2012.
Poll will be up Tuesday 29th May 2012.
Winner to be announced Saturday 2nd June 2012.

The Rules for the weekly competition are...

Post a topic on the Sunday following your declared win

Create a poll for that weeks comp and declare the winner on the Saturday
(if for any reason there is a problem and no subject is posted by the winner by Monday night admin will advise second place winner to post the topic asap, do the poll etc)

In case of a tie, the first entry posted wins.

Photos to be taken during the specified dates, ie Monday xx to Sunday xx

I will be away from the 24th till the 30th of May, with only very limited internet access.

Would someone please do the honours, and set up the poll for me?

23 May: Problem solved. Howard is the knight in shining armour.

I seem to have made a habit of entering first. Normally because I have my shot ready, and don't see why I should wait. This time I have no choice, as I won't have ready access to the internet for a few days.

In two sessions, I took lots of shots of my old lady and finally decided on this one:

In Creased Dignity.

A super shot it is too Reinardina!
I may have to revert to the old self-portrait thing again ...  :legit:

Thank you! I'm very pleased with the result.

It sets the bar high Reinardina. No wrinklies around these parts (and no planned trips out as yet) so I may end up by not getting a shot suited to the theme  :(

You don't live in the middle of nowhere Andy! There must be someone, somewhere willing to be a victim.

And it does not have to be a ninety year old; a nice middle aged face often has some creases and wrinkles. Just make sure you give them a bit of extra gravitas.

Yes he does. And so do I.

I don't think there is much chance of an entry from darkest Dordognshire either. Sorry.

We are well out in the sticks. In France it is also difficult re street photography and privacy law, and finding someone happy about having their portrait published on the Internet, warts and all, is a tough one to say the least  ::)

Oh dear, what have I started?

Do you bake your own baguettes, grow your own fruit and veg?
Do you never, ever leave the estate? No shopping whatsoever, no kids to take to school or collect? What about your mower repair man? Doesn't he have a wrinkle or two? No peasants used to working in the outdoors under blazing sun? Sunlight ages skin prematurely.

Asking people to have their picture published on the internet, can be tricky, but especially with old people, I have found quite a few that couldn't care less, when I was doing my 'time' project recently.

Feel quite guilty now, like asking for snow pictures from members living in the tropics.  :'(

Don't fret Re, there are always subjects that are more difficult for some of us than others.

I would have to go for a street shot, and as I rarely go anywhere in town on foot (yes there is the school run, but that is not in the middle of town and is only a case of drop off and pick up) I don't think I'll get anything. Then, as Andy says you have to worry about the civil law here; although I tend not to let it bother me and breaking it by posting one particular shot on Flickr led to the family contacting me and them getting a print done of their recently deceased grandpa - so they were pleased I hadn't been a law abiding citizen in their case.

I'll do as I'm told, and will stop fretting.

I remember that picture of the old man; that was a great shot, no wonder they were happy with it.

Well I did try the self portrait bit and tried to add a few wrinkles - it looked terrible, really botched, like someone who didn't know what they were doing on PS  :D

I do have a few wrinkly pics taken in the past - like of my 93 year old aunt when I was in Sheffield in March (got one of Jinky too  :P), but I really don't know where to find one now. The Germans are a bit weird about having their photo taken too ...

Oh well ...

Oh dear. (I'm doing a lot of 'oh dearing' in this competition.) Can't you do a 'partial face,' just an eye for instance, with some nice lines?

No colleagues willing to oblige?

The way it's going, I'll win simply because I'm the only entrant!
